VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwired) -- 01/30/14 -- Candente Gold Corp. (TSX:CDG)(LMA:CDG) ("Candente Gold" or the "Company") with great sadness we regretfully announce the passing of director Michael Casselman.
Mike's contagious enthusiasm will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him and especially all of us at Candente. He was a gazelle in the field, energetic, positive, optimistic, a friend and a mentor, loved and admired by his peers, with a great sense of humour, always smiling and making all around him smile. Mike was always encouraging and full of ideas and totally unselfish in sharing his knowledge and experience and a (joy) ton of fun to work with.
Mike joined Candente as Exploration Manager of Candente Resource Corp. (now Candente Copper Corp.) in 2004 and was instrumental in managing exploration and building the geological model for the Canariaco Norte porphyry project, which was key to understanding the deposit from early stage drilling through the definition of a resource and through various engineering studies and into feasibility.
Mike was also instrumental in early exploration of Candente Gold's El Oro gold-silver project in Mexico in 2006 and 2007 where he targeted some key holes which identified the extension of gold and silver mineralization to depths well below old mine levels.
Since 2004 Mike also served tirelessly on the Board of Directors of Candente Resource Corp., Candente Copper Corp., Cobriza Metals Corp. and Candente Gold Corp. where he contributed immensely.
Mike was also a pure scientist and an intellectual. Prior to joining Candente, Mike had a varied and impressive career. He studied and wrote his Master's Thesis on the Hackett River Deposit in Nunavut in the early 1970's. His thesis work led to the conclusion that it is a volcanogenic massive sulphide deposit, which was a revolutionary concept and contrary to conventional thinking at the time. This conclusion has never been challenged.
Mike will be sorely missed by all of us in the Candente Group in Canada, Peru and Mexico and the mining community. The Company extends its condolences to Mr. Casselman's family and friends.
On behalf of the Board of Candente Gold Corp.
