MIAMI, Feb. 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Sunday afternoon, April 6th 2014, "Rockin' For The Cure" is hosting a Walk-a-thon ("Walkin' For The Cure") at Tropical Park in Miami, Florida to help raise money for the new Cancer Research and Treatment Center being built by the Baptist Health Foundation in South Florida.
On Wednesday, January 29, 2014, the Baptist Health Foundation announced plans to build the new $400 million Cancer Treatment and Research Center to open in 2016 at Baptist Hospital's main campus in Miami, Florida. Not many people realize that Baptist Hospital is one of the few institutions in America that grants treatment to children who are cancer victims even it they can't afford it. Baptist plans to recruit nationally renowned experts to lead the new cancer treatment and research center. The center will be one of the few centers in America that will provide proton therapy, a treatment that beams radiation directly to the tumor while avoiding healthy tissue. In addition, the center will also perform bone marrow transplants, infusion chemotherapy and radiation therapies and other clinical services. Construction of this innovative 370,000 square foot facility will break ground in July of this year. Proceeds from the Walk-a-thon event will be used to assist the Baptist Health Foundation in the construction of this new Cancer Research and Treatment Center.
