Ray Kurzweil and Steve Jurvetson Chosen for SVForum’s First Visionary Salon Dinner

The future is coming to SVForum’s first Visionary Salon, when Visionary Honoree and legendary futurist Ray Kurzweil, Google’s Director of Engineering behind the “Google Brain,” will be interviewed by Steve Jurvetson, Managing Director of Draper Fisher Jurvetson. Ray has previously stated that “the pace of change of our human-created technology is accelerating, and its powers are expanding at an exponential pace.” The upcoming February 6th dinner in Menlo Park promises to give the audience a glimpse of the future technology opportunities that lie before us. The Salon has been designed to complement SVForum’s annual Visionary Awards, which honor industry leaders who have pioneered innovation, developing not only Silicon Valley but changing our world.

SVForum is the Bay Area's premiere not-for-profit devoted to supporting the tech and startup ecosystem. Its members have long wanted a Visionary Salon to learn and exchange ideas. “We are very excited to be hosting the Visionary Salon dinner, and to have everybody’s tech idol Ray Kurzweil as the first Honoree to be interviewed,” stated newly appointed SVForum CEO Adiba Barney. “At SVForum, we constantly strive to support new techies and entrepreneurs, as well as honor the accomplishments of those who have changed the world we live in. With the addition of the Salon, we are continuing our mission: to provide a place where inspirational ideas are conceived and shared, so that our community can learn, grow, and change. We are looking forward to the evening ahead!”

Guest of honor Ray Kurzweil is a prolific author and developer of artificially enhanced intelligence, as well as the principal inventor of the first flatbed scanner, the first print-to-speech reading machine for the blind, the first text-to-speech synthesizer, and the first music synthesizer capable of recreating orchestral instruments. Kurzweil’s many honors include the National Medal of Technology, induction into the National Inventors Hall of Fame, twenty honorary Doctorates, and honors from three U.S. Presidents. Ray has written five national best-selling books, including New York Times best sellers The Singularity Is Near (2005) and How To Create A Mind (2012).

Interviewer Steve Jurvetson is the Managing Director of venture capital firm Draper Fisher Jurvetson. His current board responsibilities include SpaceX, Synthetic Genomics, and Tesla Motors. Previously, he was an R&D Engineer at Hewlett-Packard. Steve was chosen by Forbes as one of "Tech's Best Venture Investors," by the VC Journal as one of the "Ten Most Influential VCs," and by Fortune as part of their "Brain Trust of Top Ten Minds."
