TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 02/03/14 -- George Brown College is accepting nominations for the 5 To Watch - Canada's Sports Business Awards. The awards are given to professionals who demonstrate leadership in their industry sector while exhibiting commitment to philanthropy and volunteerism, and are presented by George Brown College's Sport and Event Marketing Program in partnership with The Globe and Mail.
The awards recognize five Canadian sports leaders under the age of 40, and were launched to benefit current and future students, by raising funds for student bursaries in the Centre for Business at George Brown College.
"With the 5 to Watch awards, George Brown continues to provide an important opportunity to cultivate the talent of our next generation of leaders," said Justine Fedak, Honorary Co-Chair of the selection committee and Senior V.P. Brand Advertising and Sponsorships at BMO Financial Group. "I'm proud of what the school and its partners have achieved - both in honouring these exceptional professionals, and in working together to raise funds for students wanting to make their mark on the industry in the future."
A panel of 30 leading sports marketers, influencers and representatives, including executives from founding partners: BMO Financial Group, the Canadian Football League, Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, SDI Marketing, TSN and presenting partner, The Globe and Mail, will select recipients. Winners will be announced on May 1, 2014 at the college's Waterfront Campus in Toronto.
"We have assembled a dynamic selection committee, representing key sport and event marketing organizations as well as the academic sector. The committee is dedicated to making this year's event a success and is encouraging members of the public and the business community to submit nominations," said Dave Hopkinson, Honorary Co-Chair of the Selection Committee and Chief Commercial Officer at Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment.

Candidates must be under the age of 40 years old by December 31, 2013.
Candidates can only be selected from the following segments of the sports industry:
-- Sports properties -- Amateur sport bodies including national/provincial sports organizations and educational institutions -- Non-editorial at media outlets -- Event/promotional/sports marketing agencies -- Advertisers, licensees, sponsors -- Large sports events
Candidates must work on the business side of their operation (vs. on-field performance roles like a coach or General Manager)
