iBasis, a KPN company, announced that MTS (OJSC Mobile TeleSystems), the leading telecommunications provider in Russia and the CIS, has selected iBasis as the primary provider of IPX services to enable LTE Roaming, as a result of an open tender process.
Through the IPX interconnect, iBasis is providing multiple services including GRX, covering both 2G/3G and LTE data roaming, as well as the iBasis LTE Signaling Exchange (LSX) service for the exchange of Diameter signaling between LTE networks. The multiservice nature of the iBasis IPX and its rich suite of voice and data services paves the way for MTS to offer its subscribers the full range of LTE roaming services.
“We are experiencing a rapid increase in the demand for our multiservice IPX capabilities, especially as more and more operators implement LTE and recognize the challenges of international LTE Signaling and Roaming,” said Willem Offerhaus, President and CEO of iBasis. “As an innovative service provider, MTS is taking steps to ensure that it continues to provide the highest quality services for its customers. We’re very pleased to partner with them to help them leverage IPX to achieve their goals.”
The iBasis LTE Signaling eXchange (LSX) service provides a single point of access to iBasis’ live 4G (LTE) signaling network with Diameter Routing Agents in key locations around the world and complemented with 2G and 3G MAP Signaling interworking services to non-LTE networks. Through direct connections to many mobile operators’ LTE networks and its open peering policy, iBasis delivers a global LTE Roaming footprint that reaches approximately 60 LTE networks. In addition, iBasis offers a trial environment for testing LTE interworking and roaming scenarios.
A wholly-owned KPN company, iBasis is a leading international voice carrier and a provider of data services and solutions for mobile operators. The company offers a comprehensive portfolio of voice termination services and data services, including messaging, signaling and roaming, for many of the world’s largest fixed and mobile operators, as well as “over-the-top” and voice-over-broadband service providers. iBasis customers include KPN and its mobile operators, KPN Mobile, E-Plus, and KPN Belgium, and more than 1,000 other providers, including Verizon, Vodafone, China Mobile, China Unicom, Skype, TDC, Telecom Italia, and Telefonica. The company has recently launched lteroaming.info, a blog site providing insights about LTE roaming, VoLTE, IPX and related topics. Find out more about iBasis at www.ibasis.com.

While great strides have been made relative to the video aspects of remote collaboration, audio technology has basically stagnated. Typically all audio is mixed to a single monaural stream and emanates from a single point, such as a speakerphone or a speaker associated with a video monitor. This leads to confusion and lack of understanding among participants especially regarding who is actually speaking. Spatial teleconferencing introduces the concept of acoustic spatial separation between confe...

There is no question that the cloud is where businesses want to host data. Until recently hypervisor virtualization was the most widely used method in cloud computing. Recently virtual containers have been gaining in popularity, and for good reason. However, the container space has evolved drastically since coming on...

Even though it’s now Microservices Journal, long-time fans of SOA World Magazine can take comfort in the fact that the URL – soa.sys-con.com – remains unchanged. And that’s no mistake, as microservices are really nothing more than a new and improved take on the Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) best practices we struggled to hammer out over the last decade. Skeptics, however, might say that this change is nothing more than an exercise in buzzword-hopping. SOA is passé, and now that people are ...
