Public Insight has created a powerful website that transforms a widely used education database, Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), into accessible information, so that users can quickly and easily navigate and analyze this otherwise complicated data source.
360-Public (www.360-public.com), the company’s public analytics website, has integrated IPEDS data for all U.S. colleges and universities into one, easy-to-use online platform that gives users the ability to explore admission, enrollment, graduation, financial aid and other IPEDS data in seconds. It also presents the information in easy-to-view visualizations, allowing users to compare and benchmark schools quickly and easily.
The new web platform means that, for the first time, someone with no data analysis or computer programming background can uncover powerful insights and trends in higher education and specific institutions.
“With 360-Public, you can finally make IPEDS work for you,” said Public Insight CEO Dan Quigg. “IPEDS is traditionally complicated and takes time to compile and analyze, even for someone with a substantial knowledge of database structures. We’ve already done that work within the 360-Public web site, giving users the ability to easily make sense of this otherwise complex data in less time and with less effort than ever before.”
For example, with 360-Public, anyone can easily compare SAT/ACT scores of students at various colleges and universities. With a few clicks of the mouse, users can see how many students are in the 25th percentile and how many are in the 75th percentile for test scores, for instance.
Shawn Brown, Interim Executive Director of the Northeast Ohio Council on Higher Education (NOCHE), says the 360-public.com site will make a significant difference for educators, guidance counselors and school administrators seeking to understand more about colleges and universities.
“NOCHE uses a variety of public economic and education data to advance its mission connecting business and higher education,’’ Brown said. “Accessing data from public sources is rarely easy, which limits our ability to gain insight. 360-Public makes it easier to access critical data and allow us to focus on how to use data in a way that improves practices in regional educational attainment.
“The addition of IPEDS data is valuable especially for anyone researching higher education,’’ he added.

The site offers several levels of analysis, from “public” to paid subscriptions, which provide increased reporting and data analysis. There is no charge to use the public version.
In addition to higher education databases, 360-public.com combines a wide variety of information sources from various public sites, including census and statewide school performance data.
