NEW ORLEANS, Feb. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- GCR Inc. announces the 2014 NuclearIQ® Users Group and Industry Update conference, to be held at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in New Orleans from March 10 through March 11, 2014. Representatives from over 40 nuclear power stations in the US and Canada, representing two-thirds of the entire fleet, will attend to learn about emergent technologies, share information and collaborate with peers and industry leaders. Historically focused on chemistry departments, NuclearIQ now serves teams from Groundwater, Radiation Protection, Emergency Services and other plant groups through data management solutions.
Industry leading partners will present technologies that support the conference theme – "Information Collection, Sharing and Collaboration". GCR's NuclearIQ team and partners will jointly address the challenges of disconnected systems, how to connect, and how to enable automated data sharing to save time and reduce errors while increasing data visibility. Representatives from the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), www.epri.com, will discuss the future of Smart Chemworks chemistry modeling tools.
Partners such as:
- OSIsoft will demonstrate the interface between PI server and NuclearIQ, and discuss the efficiencies realized when these two systems pass data seamlessly.
- Canberra will announce the general availability of a new automated interface between Gamma Spectroscopy counters, the underlying Apex database and NuclearIQ.
- Ortec, a division of Ametek, will demonstrate a portable gamma spec machine and the automated update of NuclearIQ with sample results in real time.
- Leidos, formerly of SAIC, with partners On-Ramp Network and SCT Engineering, will demonstrate a wireless, ultra-portable, radiation monitor in a compact battery-backed sensor housing that collects data over a secure wireless network, updating NuclearIQ database, reports, maps and the Control Room in real time. This technology delivers twenty times the battery-backed EPZ coverage at 1/20 the cost, 24/7, over previous rad monitoring technologies and is the ideal solution in this post-Fukushima era.
Additionally, stations from the largest fleets in the US will demonstrate an automated electronic transfer of lab test results into NuclearIQ from external labs. This electronic transfer is a time saving routine that advances posting and report generation within the NuclearIQ software system, and eliminate technicians waiting to key-in data from hardcopy lab reports.
The NuclearIQ® Users Group and Industry Update conference will be the first time that these leadership technologies have been demonstrated in one location. The conference will be a forum to demonstrate industry-based practices and technologies that extend the NuclearIQ software infrastructure to provide unprecedented return on investment for nuclear power stations. As stations replace aging 1970's technology and seek to lower maintenance and operational costs, new technologies are available.
Representatives from nuclear power stations, partners, and regulators are all invited to attend this free conference. For more information about NuclearIQ®, visit www.nuclearIQ.com.

The OpenStack cloud operating system includes Trove, a database abstraction layer. Rather than applications connecting directly to a specific type of database, they connect to Trove, which in turn connects to one or more specific databases. One target database is Postgres Plus Cloud Database, which includes its own RESTful API. Trove was originally developed around MySQL, whose interfaces are significantly less complicated than those of the Postgres cloud database. In his session at 16th Cloud...

Over the years, a variety of methodologies have emerged in order to overcome the challenges related to project constraints. The successful use of each methodology seems highly context-dependent. However, communication seems to be the common denominator of the many challenges that project management methodologies intend to resolve. In this respect, Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) can be viewed as powerful tools for managing projects. Few research papers have focused on the way...

As the world moves from DevOps to NoOps, application deployment to the cloud ought to become a lot simpler. However, applications have been architected with a much tighter coupling than it needs to be which makes deployment in different environments and migration between them harder. The microservices architecture, which is the basis of many new age distributed systems such as OpenStack, Netflix and so on is at the heart of CloudFoundry – a complete developer-oriented Platform as a Service (PaaS...

In high-production environments where release cycles are measured in hours or minutes — not days or weeks — there's little room for mistakes and no room for confusion. Everyone has to understand what's happening, in real time, and have the means to do whatever is necessary to keep applications up and running optimally. DevOps is a high-stakes world, but done well, it delivers the agility and performance to significantly impact business competitiveness.

There is no question that the cloud is where businesses want to host data. Until recently hypervisor virtualization was the most widely used method in cloud computing. Recently virtual containers have been gaining in popularity, and for good reason. In the debate between virtual machines and containers, the latter have been seen as the new kid on the block – and like other emerging technology have had some initial shortcomings. However, the container space has evolved drastically since coming on...
