RIDGEFIELD, Conn., Feb. 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Owl Computing Technologies, Inc., a network security solutions provider, is pleased to announce the deployment of Owl's Enterprise Perimeter Defense Solution (EPDS) in the fossil fired electric power plants of a major electric utility company in the United States. The company implemented the Owl perimeter defense solutions to adopt best practices that mitigate cybersecurity vulnerabilities and comply with North American Electric Reliability Corporation Critical Infrastructure Protection – protecting critical cyber assets and control systems.
The company required a security solution that would allow it to maintain productive business operations while isolating and protecting its control network from external cyber threats. Owl's EPDS incorporates patented Owl DualDiode Technology® to provide the necessary security features, system reliability, and ease of configuration.
The current successful EPDS deployments in the fossil plants follow a similar cybersecurity strategy to that deployed for the operating companies of nuclear generating stations in 2012 to meet NRC regulatory guidance.
Owl EPDS are deployed on high-availability servers to ensure the reliability of the solutions while also providing support for multiple applications, including the replication of the OSIsoft® PI Historian with Owl PI Transfer Service™ software application. Additionally, The Owl EPDS concurrently supports several company applications including the secure transfer of files, the ability to securely transfer email and print jobs, and the ability to maintain Network Time Protocol across the electronic security perimeter.
