SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 02/07/14 -- INFORUM at The Commonwealth Club announced today that it will host Tom Perkins, co-founder of Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, in conversation with Adam Lashinsky, senior editor at large for FORTUNE magazine, on Feb. 13 at The Commonwealth Club of California.
In January 2014, Tom Perkins wrote a letter published by The Wall Street Journal saying, "I perceive a rising tide of hatred of the successful one percent." In what is often identified as the most controversial point of Perkins' letter, Perkins "call[s] attention to the parallels of fascist Nazi Germany to its war on its 'one percent,' namely its Jews, to the progressive war on the American one percent, namely the 'rich.'" Perkins later apologized for making comparisons with Nazi Germany, but otherwise stood by the message of his letter.
The interview on Thursday, Feb. 13 will focus on "the plight of those not in the 1%." It will dig into the bourgeoning class warfare in the Bay area punctuated by Google bus protests and rising real-estate prices due to "techno-geeks," and Perkins' prediction as to how the Silicon Valley, San Francisco tensions will all pan out. Audiences can also expect Perkins and Lashinsky to discuss income inequality and Perkins' opinions on the fiscal, monetary and social policy that shapes the plight of the middle class. From the Big Apple to the Golden City, Perkins has breathed new controversy into this ongoing, bicoastal conversation.
Tom Perkins is a co-founder of venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. Perkins is an alumnus of Harvard and MIT, a renowned businessman, and an outspoken capitalist.
Adam Lashinsky is a senior editor at large for FORTUNE magazine, where he covers Silicon Valley and Wall Street.
The program consists of a one-hour conversation on-stage with Tom Perkins and moderator Adam Lashinsky, including 15 minutes of live audience questions. There will be a general reception after the program beginning at 7:30 p.m. PT.
The program takes place at The Commonwealth Club in San Francisco on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. PT. For more information and to register for tickets, call (415)-597-6705 or register online at bit.ly/tomperkins-eb.
