MONTREAL, QUEBEC -- (Marketwired) -- 02/12/14 -- Singapore Airshow - Bombardier Aerospace and Falko Regional Aircraft Limited (Falko), a global lessor focused on the regional aircraft sector, today announced that Falko has added a CRJ900 aircraft to its portfolio. The aircraft, manufactured in 2006 and acquired from Bombardier, is on lease to Mesa Airlines Inc. and is operating on behalf of US Airways, now part of the American Airlines Group.
"The acquisition of our first CRJ900 aircraft is the latest in a series of acquisitions in Europe, the Asia-Pacific region and North America. The addition of the CRJ900 aircraft brings diversity to our aircraft portfolio and demonstrates Falko's commitment to pursuing regional sector investments as we kick off a period of growth and expansion with a strong pipeline of acquisitions," said Mark Hughes, Executive Vice President - Corporate Finance, Falko Regional Aircraft Limited. "We are very pleased to have completed this acquisition from Bombardier and look forward to adding more Bombardier-manufactured aircraft in the near future."
"We congratulate Falko on the acquisition of its first CRJ900 aircraft and are thrilled to welcome yet another lessor to the family," said Mike Arcamone, President, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft. "The CRJ900 aircraft's significant market potential and outstanding value retention, as well as the broad base of CRJ aircraft operators around the world, make the aircraft very attractive to lessors like Falko. Falko's lease of the acquired aircraft to our long-standing customer, Mesa Airlines - which took delivery of the very first CRJ900 aircraft in 2003 - provides evidence of the CRJ900 aircraft's high value and reliability.
"Like other members of the CRJ Series family of aircraft, the light weight and advanced aerodynamics of the CRJ900 regional jet combine to deliver improved efficiency and reduced operating costs compared to other aircraft in its class," added Mr. Arcamone.
In total, Bombardier has recorded firm orders for 1,812 CRJ Series aircraft, including 339 CRJ900 and CRJ900 NextGen aircraft. Worldwide, CRJ Series aircraft are in service with more than 60 airlines and more than 30 customers operate corporate variants of the aircraft. The aircraft are operating in over 50 countries on six continents, and on average, a CRJ aircraft takes off every 10 seconds somewhere in the world. CRJ Series aircraft have transported more than 1.4 billion passengers and have logged more than 38 million flight hours and over 32 million takeoffs and landings.
Falko was formed in July 2011 when funds managed by Fortress Investment Group completed the purchase of BAE Systems Asset Management and its associated aircraft portfolio.
Falko has a clear growth strategy and intends to continue to expand the business and grow its portfolio of aircraft and services with particular focus on the regional aircraft market. With offices in Europe, Asia, South America and Australasia, Falko is well positioned to deliver a range of solutions across the globe. Twitter: Falko_RA
