SPRINGFIELD, IL--(Marketwired - February 12, 2014) - With more than 4,400 followers and counting, Horace Mann's Pinterest page has claimed the number-one ranking among insurers.
Horace Mann increased followers through its "12 Days of Gifting" contest which included educational resources, (iPad mini, Swivl camera, personal laminator) and personal gifts (Tiffany's pendant, Coach gift card). Educators who followed Horace Mann's Pinterest page and filled out an entry form were entered to win these daily prizes. When the contest started, Horace Mann's Pinterest site had just over 2,000 followers, and in just 12 days, it had grown to over 4,300 followers.
"We are always looking for new ways to help educators, and Pinterest is a perfect tool to get educational resources, creative teaching ideas and inspirational pins to educators who thrive in a community atmosphere like social media," said Social Media Director Kristi Hillyer. "We want educators to find our Pinterest boards entertaining, inspiring and as we say...Pinteresting."
Pinterest is the second most popular social media network used by today's teachers, according to weareteachers.com. The website states 61 percent of teachers use the site, which allows users to create and manage theme-based collections such as events, interests and hobbies. Educators are most likely to use Pinterest for sharing lesson plans and classroom decoration and organization ideas.
Horace Mann's Pinterest success and explosion in popularity were noted in the January 2014 publication SocialEyes, a monthly publication reporting on social media trends within the insurance industry. Horace Mann also has growing communities with Facebook, Twitter and its educator blog, Reach Every Child.
