CHICAGO, Nov. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Teams of Cowboys will be wrangling up retired cell phones in downtown Chicago and passing out literature during the commute on November 15, America Recycles Day, as part of The Great American Cell Phone Round Up.
"The goal of The Great American Cell Phone Round Up is to provide a light- hearted, fun way to show people how easy it is to recycle a retired cell phone," said Joe Farren, CTIA's director of public affairs. "The best part of this program is virtually everyone has one or two unused, retired cell phones that could be recycled. With greater than 130 million retired cell phones each year; we think it is vitally important that the cell phone industry provide an easy to use, free solution to safely recycle cell phones."
The Great American Cell Phone Round Up will be held at several soon-to-be- announced locations throughout Chicago such as El stations, retail outlets and landmarks. The cowboys will round up old and used cell phones and encourage consumers to drop the phones into collection barrels for recycling. The cowboys also will hand out postage-paid recycling envelopes, so consumers can mail in their previously used cell phones at their convenience.
The pre-paid postage recycling envelopes feature step-by-step instructions along with directions for how to use a Cell Phone Data Eraser(TM). The Cell Phone Data Eraser is a resource that offers greater than 480 manuals from 20 cell phone manufacturers to securely erase personal cell phone information, such as phone numbers, text messages and photos prior to donating or recycling.
