Surgeon Offers Next-Gen Laser Spine PRO Back Surgery

Dr. Robert Talac Offers Next-Generation Technique in Pain-Free, Minimally Invasive Back Surgery

THE WOODLANDS, TX --(Marketwired - February 17, 2014) - More than 98 percent of Americans will have back pain during their lifetime. Many of them are afraid to even approach a doctor for fear of what their treatments will be. For 80 percent of Dr. Talac's patients, physical therapy and injections for pain can solve the problem. For the other 20 percent, surgery is required -- but today, more than ever before, Talac is able to provide the next-generation in surgical relief to each individual patient with techniques that lead to reduced pain, near-immediate recovery and only local anesthesia.

Talac grew up in Czechoslovakia, came to the U.S. to study at the Mayo Clinic, continued at the University of San Diego and the Center for Spine Heath, Cleveland Clinic, and has focused his considerable intellectual talents and gifted hands on spine related problems.

"It is indescribable when a person comes to me in severe pain and they walk out of the operating room with a Band-Aid on their back," Talac says.

For years, spine surgeons have offered procedures with modern promises -- "minimally invasive," "laser spine surgery" -- but traditional results. Despite smaller incisions and precise laser cutting, back surgery still involved cutting through healthy tissue and moving the spinal cord, with their own potential ill effects, just to get access to the true problem.

Today, Dr. Talac uses revolutionary tools in concert for Laser Spine PRO procedure, making good on the promise of truly precise, low-impact spine surgery. Dr. Talac is able to enter the body with a spine endoscope, a 7 millimeter wide tool with a high-definition camera. This needle-like tool moves through and projects HD images of the inside of a patient's back and neck magnified by six to 10 times on a video screen for the clearest, most detailed picture of the spine that the medical profession has ever enjoyed. Without damaging healthy muscles or moving the spinal cord, Dr. Talac is able to locate a problem area.

Once he has identified the source of a patient's pain, Dr. Talac uses sophisticated probe-like cutting instruments that allow him to precisely target very small zones of tissues. Depending on the clinical application, the probe uses either radio-frequency or a laser beam to ablate affected tissue such as a cracked disc or pinched nerve. The cell-specific tissue effect affords unparalleled surgical precision while sparing healthy tissues and nerves. Additionally, lasers of different wavelengths can be used for different clinical effects.

All this is done with a patient under local anesthetic who can provide instant feedback to the doctor as to whether back and neck pain have improved. Previously, patients had to wait six to eight weeks to heal "collateral damage" caused by the traditional approach. Only after all the damage had healed could a patient enjoy benefits of surgery. For a substantial number of patients, those benefits were diminished or nullified by muscle weakness, scarring and potential nerve damage caused by tissue manipulation during surgery. Using Laser Spine PRO, a patient can feel instant relief and leave the operating room sure of the surgery's outcome and with the peace of mind that the procedure did not cause more harm than good.

"This is a shift in the paradigm of how we address problems in the back and neck," Talac says. "Lasers have been used in surgery for years. However, their full benefit was minimized by the need for an incision big enough to allow the surgeon to see the target tissue. Now, with a high-definition camera on a spine endoscope, a high-precision laser and/or an RF probe, I can work with true precision and minimize collateral damage."

The move in recent years to cloud computing services and architectures has added significant pace to the application development and deployment environment. When enterprise IT can spin up large computing instances in just minutes, developers can also design and deploy in small time frames that were unimaginable a few years ago. The consequent move toward lean, agile, and fast development leads to the need for the development and operations sides to work very closely together. Thus, DevOps become...
