Numera today announced Omron Healthcare has launched Omron Bi-LINK™, based on Numera’s Social™ engagement platform, giving consumers the ability to upload and interact with data captured on Omron medical devices.
Leveraging the proprietary Numera Net™ service for health device integration, Omron’s Bi-LINK enables individuals to upload their biometric measurements through an Internet connection to a private, online interface where they can track their progress through quantified graphing, participate in expert-generated, goal-oriented plans and further engage in the long-term management of their chronic condition.
Omron Bi-LINK works with all Omron-branded, Internet-compatible devices in Europe, including blood pressure, activity and blood glucose monitors, in addition to a body composition scale. Initially, Omron Bi-LINK is available in English, Italian, French, Spanish, Russian and German, with plans to add more devices and languages in the future.
“Chronic condition management relies heavily on the individual’s initiative and determination to adhere to a treatment plan,” said Tim Smokoff, CEO of Numera. “We’re pleased to work with Omron to deliver a health management solution that keeps consumers motivated and engaged in their own health on an on-going basis.”
“We chose to partner with Numera because not only do they offer a robust health management platform that meets today’s needs, but it’s also flexible enough to allow the addition of future devices and geographic markets,” said Paul Stevens, Group Manager EMEA Marketing, Diagnostics and Treatment. “Our customers have asked for ways to view and track their measurements, and now they have that and much more. Their device data is no longer just a number; it can be leveraged to live healthier longer.”

In the consumer IoT, everything is new, and the IT world of bits and bytes holds sway. But industrial and commercial realms encompass operational technology (OT) that has been around for 25 or 50 years. This grittier, pre-IP, more hands-on world has much to gain from Industrial IoT (IIoT) applications and principles. But adding sensors and wireless connectivity won’t work in environments that demand unwavering reliability and performance. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Ron Sege, CEO of Echelon...

Enthusiasm for the Internet of Things has reached an all-time high. In 2013 alone, venture capitalists spent more than $1 billion dollars investing in the IoT space. With "smart" appliances and devices, IoT covers wearable smart devices, cloud services to hardware companies. Nest, a Google company, detects temperatures inside homes and automatically adjusts it by tracking its user's habit. These technologies are quickly developing and with it come challenges such as bridging infrastructure gaps,...

The move in recent years to cloud computing services and architectures has added significant pace to the application development and deployment environment. When enterprise IT can spin up large computing instances in just minutes, developers can also design and deploy in small time frames that were unimaginable a few years ago. The consequent move toward lean, agile, and fast development leads to the need for the development and operations sides to work very closely together. Thus, DevOps become...

You use an agile process; your goal is to make your organization more agile. But what about your data infrastructure? The truth is, today's databases are anything but agile - they are effectively static repositories that are cumbersome to work with, difficult to change, and cannot keep pace with application demands. Performance suffers as a result, and it takes far longer than it should to deliver new features and capabilities needed to make your organization competitive. As your application an...

The industrial software market has treated data with the mentality of “collect everything now, worry about how to use it later.” We now find ourselves buried in data, with the pervasive connectivity of the (Industrial) Internet of Things only piling on more numbers. There’s too much data and not enough information. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Bob Gates, Global Marketing Director, GE’s Intelligent Platforms business, to discuss how realizing the power of IoT, software developers are now focu...

Due of the rise of Hadoop, many enterprises are now deploying their first small clusters of 10 to 20 servers. At this small scale, the complexity of operating the cluster looks and feels like general data center servers. It is not until the clusters scale, as they inevitably do, when the pain caused by the exponential complexity becomes apparent. We've seen this problem occur time and time again. In his session at Big Data Expo, Greg Bruno, Vice President of Engineering and co-founder of StackI...
