ColdLife Organics Fights Hunger Across the United States

Online Organic Grocer Seeks to Inspire Change

ATLANTA, Feb. 20, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- ColdLife Organics, online organic grocery store based in Atlanta, Georgia is partnering with the Atlanta Community Food Bank to raise awareness for hunger in the United States.

Since mid-2013, ColdLife Organics has made weekly donations of unsold produce to the Atlanta Community Food Bank. But with 15% of Americans living in food insecurity (the availability of food and one's access to it), ColdLife is dedicated to doing more.

For the next few months, ColdLife Organics will donate $1 for every order received on www.coldlife.com. The Atlanta Community Food Bank is able to generate four meals for each dollar. ColdLife's goal is to raise $5,000, the equivalent of 20,000 meals, for the Atlanta community and inspire consumers nationwide to donate to food banks and fight hunger in their hometowns.

The numbers are startling – with 49 million Americans struggling with food insecurity, 15.9 million of them are children. To put that number into perspective: 49 million is four times greater than the unemployed persons in the United States. Food insecurity isn't just experienced by the homeless – it could be the single mother who needs a little extra help, your neighbors who had an unexpected medical expense and need assistance, or the recent grad struggling with debt and a job that barely makes ends meet.

To inspire change, ColdLife Organics released an infographic with hunger statistics and ways consumers can make a difference. The infographic is designed to visually show the extensive problem of hunger in the United States and its unfortunate effects. In Georgia alone, 1 in 4 children live in food insecure homes. The hunger problem contributes to poor school performance and brain development, as well as increased illness and health costs that continue later in life.

ColdLife Organics is focusing on their hometown of Atlanta to maximize benefits. Partnering with a small organization increases the amount of money per dollar that is spent on the appropriate resources – those in need. For the Atlanta Community Food Bank, this means 94 cents of every dollar goes directly to support services in the community. Although ColdLife is primarily focusing on Atlanta's food bank, a nationwide response is expected. Anyone can donate to their local food bank, sponsor a school lunch, and help raise awareness for this problem.

Visit ColdLife's website to see how you can help the current situation and fight hunger.
