MONDAY, FEBRUARY 24: HOME OWNERSHIP
Profile America — Monday, February 24th. Even with the ongoing difficulties in the housing and mortgage industries, the American dream is still defined by many as owning your own home. Among the states, the highest percentage of home ownership is in West Virginia, at more than 73 percent, while the lowest rate is in New York, at just over 53 percent. And New York City tops the nation in the highest percentage of renting households, at 69 percent. Among the nation's nearly 45 million African-Americans, around 43 percent live in their own homes.
