Drool, Britannia? Is the UK Failing the Cloud?
By Roger Strukhoff
Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

By: PR Newswire
Nov. 9, 2006 02:00 PM

OVERLAND PARK, Kan., and PLANTATION, Fla., Nov. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- - Motorola and Sprint today announced the availability of the i880 by Motorola -- an all-in-one multimedia and productivity-enhancing wireless phone. As the first iDEN(R) handset with a 2.0 megapixel camera, the attractive i880 by Motorola provides customers with both advanced entertainment features and the productivity-enhancing Walkie-Talkie service.

With the 2.0 megapixel camera/camcorder, picture resolution is sharp enough for quality 5x7 prints, as well as lifelike video playback with sound. The i880 by Motorola also features an integrated music player with the ability to enjoy MP3s, audio files and audio podcasts*** through the front dual-ported speakers in stereo sound. Multimedia files are easily stored on the included 64 MB microSD(TM) removable memory card.

In addition to Nextel's Nationwide Walkie-Talkie and International Walkie- Talkie*** services that allow instant coast-to-coast and country-to-country communication at the touch of a button, the i880 by Motorola offers other unique walkie-talkie options:

-- Group Connect service enables group walkie-talkie conversations with up to 21 participants nationwide, and the groups can be directly set up on the handset within seconds.*** -- Direct Talk(SM) service allows short-range walkie-talkie communications in areas without network coverage, depending on specific conditions such as terrain. -- Direct Send(SM) allows users to send contact information and pictures to another Direct Send-capable phone within seconds simply by pushing the walkie-talkie button.***

"The i880 represents Motorola's philosophy of intelligent handset design while delivering an amazing music experience," said Peter Aloumanis, vice president, U.S. Markets Division, Motorola's iDEN Mobile Devices. "This device combines first class Nextel Walkie-Talkie communications solutions with ultimate multimedia features such as a 2.0 megapixel camera."

"The i880 has a perfect blend of high-tier features designed for work and play," said Danny Bowman, vice president of product marketing for Sprint. "With all the latest walkie-talkie services, the i880 allows customers to communicate quickly when it matters most. The multimedia features make the i880 a well-rounded and attractive phone for businesses and consumers."

Some of the other features of the i880 by Motorola include pre-installed and downloadable Java(R) applications,*** GPS capabilities, Internet microbrowser, custom ring tone ID and picture caller ID,*** a 262K internal color screen, voice dialing, voice recorder, speakerphone, datebook and 600- entry contacts list. In addition, the i880 by Motorola contains AgION(R) antimicrobial coating to help protect the phone's painted surfaces from damaging bacteria.

The i880 by Motorola is available through all Sprint and Nextel distribution channels, including retail stores, at a price of $499.99 or $299.99 with $50 rebate and a two-year service agreement. Taxes, fees, early termination fee and other charges apply. Additional details on the i880 by Motorola can be found at http://www.nextel.com/i880 .

Customers purchasing the i880 by Motorola as a replacement for an existing mobile phone are encouraged to donate their current phone to Sprint Project Connect. Donated phones, regardless of make, model or service provider, will be recycled in an environmentally friendly manner or refurbished and resold with proceeds benefiting K-12 education. More information, including a prepaid mailing label, can be found at http://www.sprint.com/projectconnect .
