UL DQS, one of the leading certification bodies for Environmental Management Systems in the world, has been awarded a six-year contract by the City of Dallas to become its ISO Registrar. UL DQS will provide third-party accreditations for all major departments of the city for their specific combinations of Quality, Environmental, and Health and Safety standards including ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHS 18001.
The City of Dallas has had a registered Environmental Management System since 2008. The first Quality registration was received in 2007 and Occupational Health and Safety registration was received in 2008.
“Dallas has long been recognized for our innovation and pursuit of being one of the most efficiently managed and environmentally-friendly cities in the country,” said Assistant City Manager Jill Jordan, City of Dallas. “We selected UL DQS as the best partner to help us further our progress toward the goals we charted in 2007 to attain the relevant ISO and OHSAS certifications for all of our departments.”
“Being selected as the ISO Registrar by the 9th largest city in the country is a great testament to the quality and completeness of our systems and training,” said Ganesh Rao, president & CEO, UL DQS. Dallas is the latest of a number of municipalities that have selected UL DQS to register departments to the ISO or OHS standards.
UL DQS is focused on providing municipalities with training, assessment tools and third-party verification for achieving a Conformance Certification or ISO Registration. By providing training and attaining certification for these standards, municipalities can minimize negative environmental impact, improve workplace safety, reduce energy costs, secure IT systems, and implement quality programs – all of which contribute to an effectively run city government.
The UL DQS eTraining platform can be tailored to specific areas of competency development for each department. The platform and classes will provide a comprehensive framework for implementation of processes designed to result in certification.
UL DQS provides a cost-effective learning environment with classes limited to 20 students. Students participating in the class receive continuing education certificates upon completion.
