MIPIM 2014: New European Exhibitors Head To MIPIM

SPAIN RETURNS IN FORCE

PARIS, Feb. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- A significant number of new European exhibitors are heading to MIPIM 2014, where delegates will debate whether this indicates a return to growth in certain European real estate markets.

In particular, the Spanish presence at MIPIM is set to increase significantly this year, driven by sizeable delegations from Madrid, Barcelona and Catalonia.

"Over the years, MIPIM has become a barometer for international property markets, and a key indicator for all stakeholders and industry observers," says Filippo Rean, Director of MIPIM. "The real estate situation in Europe is still very mixed and varies from one country to the next. More than ever this year, it will be interesting to examine the situation in Europe's national real estate markets."

After a low-key presence in recent years, Spain is making a major return to MIPIM with companies from different property sectors showcasing new market opportunities at Cannes.

For example, a dozen private companies from the Madrid region will come together for the first time under one roof. They include consultancies such as Like Invest and Irea Corporate Finance; fund managers such as IBA Capital Partners and Ursus Kapital Inversiones Inmobiliarias; Anida, which manages the BBVA bank real estate assets; and the famous Spanish architect Ricardo Bofill, who designed the Antigone district in Montpellier, the Saint-Honore market in Paris and the National Theatre of Catalonia in Barcelona.

Barcelona and the Catalonia region as a whole will also host over a dozen companies on their stand. They include the developers Renta Corporacion, specializing in the property acquisition and renovation; Miete S.A which will present a 56,800 m² project in the centre of Barcelona; the architectural firm BCQ; Fabregat Perulles Sales Abogados, a law firm specialized in providing location assistance in Spain; and Cornex Capital, a property manager.

Italy is also boosting its visibility this year with new exhibitors and new projects. These include Arexpo Spa, a public-private partnership for the ownership and management of 105 hectares of land to the northwest of the city centre of Milan, which will host Expo 2015. Ada Lucia de Cesaris, Deputy Mayor of Milan, will attend MIPIM to promote her city's development projects.

The Italian projects on show will also reflect the dynamism of the country's architects. For example Venetian architectural firm All Projects will present its redevelopment plans for the island of Gorgo; and the architect Simone Micheli will also be attending with his hotel project for the Hermitage Museum in Saint-Petersburg. The architects Progetto CMR will be showcasing the Oxygen Eco Tower project, a 75-floor building comprising 161 villas each with a vertical private garden.

Belgium is attending MIPIM this year with new exhibitors and a larger visibility. Belgian companies will exhibit in a new 400 m² pavilion located in the Debussy area, bringing together stands and a conference room for sessions dedicated to the Belgian market. New Belgian exhibitors include the Group Hugo Ceusters-SCMS, the developer Speci, IBM - which will showcase a project in Wallonia - and also in the MIPIM Innovation Forum newcomers such as Cellumat, MCS and Urban Farm Company.

The Wallonia, Flanders and Brussels regions will also showcase new projects on their respective stands including the development of the area alongside the canal crossing Brussels, the mixed-use project La Strada in La Louviere in Wallonia and the mixed developments linked to the Ghelamco Arena stadium in Gent in Flanders.

Amongst the French delegation, AFEX, an association of a 100 French architects, is attending MIPIM for the first time to promote their know-how internationally. The stand will bring together Wilmotte & Associates, Arte Charpentier Architects, PBO Architecture, Diener Guirard architecture, Chaix et Morel et associes, Braun et associes, AW2 architecture workshop, Atelier Tom Sheehan & partners, AS architecture studio, Aia Associates, and 2/3/4/ Architecture.

The Internet of Things is a misnomer. That implies that everything is on the Internet, and that simply should not be - especially for things that are blurring the line between medical devices that stimulate like a pacemaker and quantified self-sensors like a pedometer or pulse tracker. The mesh of things that we manage must be segmented into zones of trust for sensing data, transmitting data, receiving command and control administrative changes, and peer-to-peer mesh messaging. In his session a...

While great strides have been made relative to the video aspects of remote collaboration, audio technology has basically stagnated. Typically all audio is mixed to a single monaural stream and emanates from a single point, such as a speakerphone or a speaker associated with a video monitor. There is no question that the cloud is where businesses want to host data. Until recently hypervisor virtualization was the most widely used method in cloud computing. Recently virtual containers have been gaining in popularity, and for good reason. In the debate between virtual machines and containers, the latter have been seen as the new kid on the block – and like other emerging technology have had some initial shortcomings. However, the container space has evolved drastically since coming on...
