Reducing Sugar - A Priority for Canadians During Nutrition Month

TORONTO, Feb. 26, 2014 /CNW/ - March is Nutrition Month - the perfect time to resurrect your health-focused resolutions by making small changes to your lifestyle and diet. Healthy eating contributes to overall health and well-being. In fact, one small change can lead to big results.

A recent Canadian survey* conducted by Vision Critical for Truvia® sweetener - a naturally-sourced, stevia-based, calorie-free sweetener - indicates that 67 per cent of Canadians want to lead a healthier lifestyle in 2014 and 39 per cent plan to reduce their sugar intake.

Adopting a healthier lifestyle requires changes from diet and exercise to sleep and work-life balance; however, experts agree that it is easier to make one adjustment at a time. For example, cutting just 100 calories per day can equal a 10-pound weight loss over the course of one year.

The survey also found that:

  • Half of Canadians (48%) are willing to pay more for foods or beverages made with no artificial sweeteners

About the Survey
From November 21, 2013 to November 26, 2013, an online survey was conducted among a sample of 1009 Canadian adults age 18+ who are also Angus Reid Forum panel members. The margin of error — which measures sampling variability — is +/-3.09%, 19 times out of 20. The sample was balanced by age, gender, region according to the most recent census data. Discrepancies in or between totals are due to rounding.
