Over the last few years, it has become the number one job (with over 600 GEO-hvac installations) for Harvey W. Hottel, Inc. The company, headquartered in Gaithersburgh, MD, was founded in 1945, and operates today as one of the largest diversified mechanical engineering and contracting services in the Mid-Atlantic region. Efficient GEO-hvac design utilizes the constant temperature of the ground for transfer of energy through a system of wells. Recently, Katz had Hottel install a geothermal system in his private residence and has documented significant savings in heating and cooling costs.
The engineers and skilled professionals at Hottel have designed, installed, and serviced thousands of heating and cooling systems, including over 600 geothermal-hvac systems in Maryland, Virginia, and the District since 1998. EPA studies find geothermal heat pumps help reduce consumption of energy and emissions that traditional heating and air conditioning systems produce by up to 40% (air source heat pumps) and over 70% (electric resistance heating with standard air conditioning systems).
