HARRISBURG, Pa., Feb. 28, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Governor Tom Corbett has announced the appointment of Susan "Susie" Shipley to the Port of Pittsburgh Commission where she will serve as commission chair. Shipley is the president of the Western Pennsylvania and Ohio Valley region at Huntington Bank. A dynamic business leader with over 25 years of domestic and international banking experience, Shipley has an impressive track record of building businesses and strong cohesive teams across geographic boundaries.
"Susie's knowledge and extensive experience as a leader within several disciplines will benefit the Port of Pittsburgh Commission," Corbett said. "As chair, Susie's innovative ideas will help move the Commission's mission forward by creating jobs and improving the quality of life for southwestern Pennsylvanians."
An Athena Award nominee, Shipley has been active in the community serving on boards including The Children's Institute of Pittsburgh, Allegheny Conference on Community Development, Manchester Bidwell, Auberle, Pennsylvania Economy League of Greater Pittsburgh, Carlow University and The International Women's Forum, Pittsburgh Chapter. She currently serves as co-chair of the Major Gifts Committee of the Pittsburgh Promise, and previously served on the Pennsylvania Governor's Conference for Women Host Committee as well as the Wharton Executive Education Advisory Board, University of Pennsylvania. Shipley is a former co-chair of the United Way Women's Leadership Campaign.
Shipley earned a bachelor's degree at the University of Notre Dame, a Master's in Business Administration from The Katz Graduate School of Business, University of Pittsburgh, and a Certificate of Spanish Studies, Universidad de Navarra, Pamplona, Spain. She is a Rotary Scholarship Foundation recipient.
In order to create jobs and improve the quality of life in southwestern Pennsylvania, it is the mission of the Port of Pittsburgh Commission to promote the commercial use and development of the inland waterway-intermodal transportation system and to integrate that system into the economic, recreational, environmental and intermodal future of the residents and industries of southwestern Pennsylvania. Created by the Legislature under Law 1992-133, the board consists of four legislative appointees representing the four major political caucuses and eleven gubernatorial appointees. The gubernatorial appointees include four citizens at large, three from nominees of the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission (SPC), one from nominees of the county commissioners jointly representing non-SPC counties in the Port of Pittsburgh District, and one each from industry nominees from DINAMO, the Waterways Association, and the River Terminal Operator's Association.
