Websense Chooses Austin for Corporate Headquarters

Austin Chamber of Commerce, the City of Austin and Opportunity Austin Collaboration Secures $9.935 Million Investment, Creating 470 Jobs

AUSTIN, Texas, Feb. 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, the Austin Chamber of Commerce announced that Websense, Inc., a global leader in protecting organizations from the latest cyberattacks and data theft, has selected the city of Austin for its new corporate headquarters. This is expected to create 470 jobs and $9.935 million in capital investment over the next two to three years.

Founded in 1994, the company's comprehensive TRITON security solutions prevent data theft by unifying web, email, mobile and data loss prevention (DLP) security to stop advanced persistent threats, targeted attacks and evolving malware that threaten thousands of enterprises. Websense employs more than 1,500 worldwide and plans on hiring 470 employees in the Austin area.

"The Austin Chamber through Opportunity Austin happily welcomes Websense to our regional community," said Pete Winstead, Shareholder at Winstead PC and Chairman of Opportunity Austin. "The security software industry will undoubtedly continue to grow nationwide and we are delighted that Websense has chosen to relocate their corporate headquarters to the Austin region. This relocation is a testament to Austin's dedication to growing and fostering tech talent that appeals to great companies like Websense."

The Austin Chamber of Commerce, the City of Austin and Opportunity Austin, a five-county public-private economic development initiative aimed at fostering job-creating investment in the Austin region, supported this investment via collaboration with key leadership from Websense throughout the site selection process. The Austin Chamber of Commerce assisted the Company throughout the incentive process, and today, the City of Austin approved an incentive estimated at $438 thousand over 10 years. Earlier this month, the State of Texas announced Websense's selection for a $4.5 million Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF) grant. Software, computer systems design, and related services is a sector that employs more than 25,000 in Austin and that has seen local job growth of 15 percent in the last year. Some of the other security solutions companies in Austin include Absolute Software, Click Security, Gazzang, Quarri Technologies, and SolarWinds.

John McCormack, CEO of Websense added, "Establishing Austin as our headquarters will heighten our security industry leadership position and enable us to better serve our growing global customer base. The city is quickly becoming a technology hub with an invigorating quality of life and multi-tiered workforce that fits well into our future plans."

"We are grateful to Websense for relocating their headquarters to Austin," said Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell. "The City of Austin continues to be an ideal location for companies seeking a well-educated workforce and dynamic, innovative community. This success for Austin is another example of what can be accomplished through community collaboration."

With the assistance of the Lead Local Broker Ford Alexander, Co-Founder & Partner at Oxford Commercial and Lead National Broker Alexander Frei, Co-Head, Business Incentives Practice for the Americas in Global Business Consulting for Cushman Wakefield, Websense plans to lease a 90,000 square-foot facility. The $9.935 million capital investment includes allocations toward a building finish out, IT upgrades and office amenities.
