iBASEt’s Solumina Paperless Manufacturing Execution System (MES) is Chosen by Textron Systems for the Ship to Shore Connector Program

iBASEt, the creators of Solumina’s Product Lifecycle Execution (PLE) software suite, announced today that Textron Systems operating unit Textron Marine & Land Systems, a leading provider of advanced marine craft and armored vehicles to United States and international customers, selected Solumina’s Manufacturing Execution System (MES) to streamline manufacturing operations for its work on the U.S. Navy’s Ship to Shore Connector (SSC) air cushion vehicle.

The SSC is the evolutionary replacement for the Navy’s existing fleet of Landing Craft, Air Cushioned (LCAC) vehicles, which are nearing the end of their service life.

Textron Marine & Land Systems (TM&LS) chose to update or enhance its manufacturing environment with Solumina’s MES to improve manufacturing processes and provide increased visibility.

“We have selected Solumina’s robust MES platform to manage the numerous mission critical requirements and operations required by our major programs, to provide managers at every level the instant visibility and control of our complex manufacturing processes, and to deliver digital work instructions and supporting documents all through one fully-integrated system,” said Richard Valenti, TM&LS Vice President of Integrated Supply Chain.

Since Solumina captures all the manufacturing data during the entire product’s manufacturing lifecycle, detailed manufacturing intelligence is easily accessible through dashboards, graphs and reports at the click of a button.

Additionally, because Solumina incorporates strict Six-Sigma and ISO-9000 process control methodology, TM&LS will enhance quality checks and balances throughout its manufacturing operations, which will result in a significant reduction in defects, increased throughput and enhanced collaboration between engineers and manufacturers.

“There is an increasing global trend in A&D to leverage MES solutions to modernize the manufacturing shop floor,” said Michel Gadbois, VP of Worldwide Sales. “More importantly, implementing an out-of-the-box solution like Solumina with over 3,900 built-in functions will make a successful implementation achievable within six months of deployment and will ensure a low ratio of services cost to software.”

The initial implementation is slated for TM&LS’ New Orleans-based Shipyard Operations, future site of SSC manufacturing, with plans to point Solumina across all of its programs.
