KNOXVILLE, TN -- (Marketwired) -- 03/04/14 -- Dr. Stephen G. Boyce, a Knoxville bariatric surgeon, Medical Director of The New Life Center for Bariatric Surgery at Tennova-Turkey Creek, and developer of Bari Life Bariatric Supplements, recently created an updated version of Bari Life's Bariatric EZ Swallow Multi-Vitamin Tablet and Bari Life's Bariatric Multi-Vitamin Powder based on the new 2013 guidelines from the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). The original Bari Life supplements were based on the 2008 ASMBS recommendations. Dr. Boyce says he is excited about the new bariatric vitamin and mineral recommendations from the ASMBS, and notes that the Bari Life products have now been revised to meet or even exceed the ASMBS 2013 guidelines.
"These ASMBS guidelines are really important," Dr. Boyce says. "These guidelines were established by combining the findings of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE), The Obesity Society (TOS), and the ASMBS. In order for our Bari Life vitamins to meet or exceed the new guidelines, all we had to do was increase the iron from 40 milligrams to 45 milligrams and the B-12 from 600 micrograms to 1,000 micrograms. Vitamin and mineral supplementation after weight loss surgery is serious business. Deficiencies can be life-threatening."
Dr. Boyce developed Bari Life Multi-Vitamins in 2008 using the first set of ASMBS guidelines published that year and began offering his formula to his bariatric patients at The New Life Center for Bariatric Surgery in Knoxville. After following more than 300 gastric bypass patients over a year after surgery, Dr. Boyce says he had clinical proof that the formula was working. He notes that Bari Life weight loss surgery vitamins are the only bariatric multivitamins that meet or exceed the ASMBS guidelines in one bottle. According to Dr. Boyce, he was successful in creating an affordable, well-tolerated and complete multivitamin. He even saw improved patient compliance. Thus, Dr. Boyce says his patients were seeing improved lab results and better health after weight loss surgery.
Dr. Boyce says Bari Life's original formula actually exceeded many of the 2008 ASMBS guidelines because his clinical experience indicated that many of his weight loss surgery patients needed more of the specific vitamins and minerals than were initially recommended. Today, he says the updated 2013 ASMBS recommendations are more similar to Bari Life's original formula, with increases in several vitamins and minerals, including iron, vitamin D and B-12.
He explains that prior to developing Bari Life products, there was a great need for a bariatric multi-vitamin. "In my practice, real clinical findings of thousands of patients told me that the bariatric vitamin industry wasn't producing anything that I felt comfortable recommending to my patients. First of all, in order for my patients to get everything recommended by the ASMBS, they would have to purchase multiple bottles of vitamins and minerals and follow a complicated regimen, which resulted in financial hardship for many of my patients. The truth was that very few patients were actually taking their vitamins," says Dr. Boyce.
Dr. Boyce says bariatric supplements can add great benefits in maximizing healthy results after weight loss surgery. He notes it is important to find a vitamin that is effective, affordable, and adheres to the guidelines set forth by the ASMBS. "The Bari Life patient will spend less money, open fewer bottles of vitamins, and will be more compliant with the recommended bariatric vitamin and mineral guidelines," says Dr. Boyce. "As a bariatric surgeon who is concerned every day about those affected by obesity, I am proud that Bari Life has been involved in getting the bariatric vitamin industry to acknowledge that there are real guidelines that need to be followed."

Even though it’s now Microservices Journal, long-time fans of SOA World Magazine can take comfort in the fact that the URL – soa.sys-con.com – remains unchanged. And that’s no mistake, as microservices are really nothing more than a new and improved take on the Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) best practices we struggled to hammer out over the last decade. Skeptics, however, might say that this change is nothing more than an exercise in buzzword-hopping. SOA is passé, and now that people are ...

The term culture has had a polarizing effect among DevOps supporters. Some propose that culture change is critical for success with DevOps, but are remiss to define culture. Some talk about a DevOps culture but then reference activities that could lead to culture change and there are those that talk about culture change as a set of behaviors that need to be adopted by those in IT. There is no question that businesses successful in adopting a DevOps mindset have seen departmental culture change, ...
