WASHINGTON, DC -- (Marketwired) -- 03/04/14 -- When "Scandal" returned to the airwaves on Thursday, February 27, it brought with it its trademark combination of intrigue, drama and enviable fashion. There was, however, one notable difference from previous seasons: The Mayflower Renaissance Washington, DC Hotel had created two exciting ways for people to get in on the action rather than just watch it. Whether guests drop in on the 89-year-old hotel's Scandalous Thursdays viewing parties, or book its new Secret Affairs package, there are plenty of ways to share the white hat with the show's star character, Olivia Pope, this season.
Starting at 7 p.m. EST, Scandalous Thursdays are the latest glamorous event to arrive at this Dupont Circle luxury hotel. The night begins at Edgar Bar & Kitchen, the hotel's own American brasserie that ranks among Connecticut Ave.'s more stylish restaurants. For the three hours leading up to the show's beginning, guests can choose from a menu of "Scandal"-inspired cocktails that are as sexy as the show. The Fitz Gin Fizz, for example, pays homage to the show's leading man, President Fitzgerald Grant III, with a winning combination of gin, simple syrup, fresh lime and club soda. The infamous spy agency B6-13, meanwhile, gets its own eponymous cocktail made from vodka, crème de cocoa, a shot of espresso and simple syrup. Olivia Pope's favorite term for herself and her team takes liquid form in the Gladiator, a mixture of rum, vodka, gin, tequila, triple sec, lemon juice and a splash of cola. And for those who crave something fit for Olivia Pope, the Ms. Pope includes red wine and popcorn.
As with the show, the hotel is something that guests can't get enough of. This K Street hotel with a gym is as luxurious as it is attractive. And the "Scandal"-inspired Secret Affairs package is the sultriest way to experience it. Available from Thursday through Sunday, the package includes complimentary valet parking, overnight accommodations and breakfast for two at Edgar Bar & Kitchen, as well as admission to the Scandalous Thursdays viewing party. As guests settle in to watch the show, the package entitles them to a savory appetizer and cocktails for two.
The package is a great opportunity to also splurge for a room upgrade. The hotel's 74 suites are some of the most luxurious in the Dupont Circle area, with spacious proportions, upgraded finishes and cotton-rich linens. They also make a sumptuous setting in which to enjoy the package's other perk: complimentary champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries upon arrival.
Rates start at $219 per night, and availability is limited. Travelers may use the special booking code P51 to secure this offer, which is available through May 26, 2014.

Gartner predicts that the bulk of new IT spending by 2016 will be for cloud platforms and applications and that nearly half of large enterprises will have cloud deployments by the end of 2017. The benefits of the cloud may be clear for applications that can tolerate brief periods of downtime, but for critical applications like SQL Server, Oracle and SAP, companies need a strategy for HA and DR protection. While traditional SAN-based clusters are not possible in these environments, SANless cluste...

Hardware will never be more valuable than on the day it hits your loading dock. Each day new servers are not deployed to production the business is losing money. While Moore's Law is typically cited to explain the exponential density growth of chips, a critical consequence of this is rapid depreciation of servers. The hardware for clustered systems (e.g., Hadoop, OpenStack) tends to be significant capital expenses. In his session at Big Data Expo, Mason Katz, CTO and co-founder of StackIQ, disc...

Container frameworks, such as Docker, provide a variety of benefits, including density of deployment across infrastructure, convenience for application developers to push updates with low operational hand-holding, and a fairly well-defined deployment workflow that can be orchestrated. Container frameworks also enable a DevOps approach to application development by cleanly separating concerns between operations and development teams. But running multi-container, multi-server apps with containers ...
