Over Half of Americans Support Extension of Obamacare Enrollment Deadline

SUNNYVALE, Calif., March 7, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In the same week that the Obama Administration confirmed its March 31st cutoff to the Obamacare Open Enrollment Period, HealthPocket conducted a nationwide poll that asked whether the enrollment deadline should be extended. Of the 1,130 adults who took the survey between March 4th and March 6th, 54% supported an extension of the open enrollment period. Over a quarter of respondents supported an extension even if the Administration's 7 million enrollment goal was achieved.

After the March 31, 2014 deadline, most uninsured Americans will not be able to get new coverage January 1, 2015. This Obamacare Lock Out Period will apply to everyone unless they have an exceptional life event that grants a Special Enrollment Period. Exceptional life events include the birth of a child or having a change in income that affects premium subsidy eligibility.
