CHICAGO, IL -- (Marketwired) -- 03/11/14 -- Joining forces with like-minded charitable organizations to ignite positive and lasting change, unite4:good today celebrated the success of two back-to-back events held in separate Los Angeles communities where hundreds of volunteers gathered and over 3,000 acts of kindness were performed.
The first took place on Friday, February 28th, at the Los Angeles Job Corps Center where unite4:good and Job Corps kicked-off a potential long-term partnership, in collaboration with Cornerstone Solutions, Inc., the Southern California Job Corps Recruitment Contractor. The Los Angeles Job Corps Center will serve as the first pilot center for Unite4 Good's "Center of Goodness" initiative designed to improve the skills and quality of life of our nation's young adults.
Hundreds of L.A. Job Corps program participants gathered to hear unite4:good founder Anthony Melikhov and Los Angeles Job Corps director Jackie Honore share their common belief that the next generation of Americans is essential to creating a better world. Blair Underwood, actor and friend of unite4:good, also addressed the crowd about his partnership with unite4:good, conveying how important service is to him.
On Saturday, March 1, 2014, unite4:good and Red Eye Inc. hosted a blockparty4:good in one of the most underprivileged communities in the city, the Watts Housing Projects. Red Eye provides a 24/7 community for culture creators, influencers and leaders to empower their lives, support their dreams, and develops their talents as well as those of the next generation. It creates social cohesion to two of the most isolated demographics: Up + In // Down + Out.
Although the day began with heavy rain, families and volunteers were undeterred and moved the activities inside the recreational center. The gym was full of larger than life games, music, food and fun; including life-size Jenga and dominoes, basketball, soccer, massive blowup jumpers, dance-parties, interactive puzzles and a variety of arts, crafts and educational games.
As the rain started to clear and participants were able to enjoy the beautiful weather, they were greeted with the site of an entire workout gym donated by Red Eye -- the first in the community. Red Eye brought a huge 100-foot long slip-and-slide setup and water toys as the kids jumped onto scooters provided to participate in a series of epic downhill races.
"We are committed to supporting regional organizations such as Job Corps and Red Eye that unite their communities with the belief that they can accomplish anything they set their mind to," said unite4:good Founder and global philanthropist, Anthony Melikhov. "We'd like to thank both organizations for such outstanding events and look forward to our continued partnerships so that together we can make a difference."
unite4:good is a revolutionary global movement that will establish a new standard whereby acts of kindness and service become so valued and celebrated that everyone chooses to make them a part of their daily life. Through empowering action, creating new programs, and uniting both individuals and organizations in innovative ways -- we will inspire positive and lasting change on a global scale. unite4:good will encourage everyone to inspire, empower, share and love. Scott Jenson leads a project called The Physical Web within the Chrome team at Google. Project members are working to take the scalability and openness of the web and use it to talk to the exponentially exploding range of smart devices. Nearly every company today working on the IoT comes up with the same basic solution: use my server and you'll be fine. But if we really believe there will be trillions of these devices, that just can't scale. We need a system that is open a scalable and by using ...
