BOSTON, March 11, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 240 amateur golfers will compete in the Liberty Mutual Insurance Invitational National Finals at Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, N.C., March 26-30, 2014. The event is the culmination of a series of more than 70 charity golf tournaments around the country in 2013 hosted by Liberty Mutual and local and national charitable organizations that raised more than $5.6 million for charity. In addition, a portion of the proceeds from the National Finals will support the American Red Cross Moore County and Moore Free Care Clinic.
"These foursomes represent 11,000 golfers who generously supported more than 50 charities through our series of amateur golf events, and we look forward to celebrating at Pinehurst their invaluable contributions to their communities," said Paul Alexander, Liberty Mutual Insurance chief communications officer.
Liberty Mutual also announces two-time U.S. Open Champion and World Golf Hall of Famer Curtis Strange will serve as the program's honorary chairman for 2014, and will help present the charitable gifts in Pinehurst. "I am proud and honored to support the Liberty Mutual Invitational, a series that has raised $21.7 million for so many great charities in just four years," said Strange.
Donna L. Bastian, Chairman of Hope Enterprises Board of Directors, said, "Everyone at Hope Enterprises is truly grateful the Liberty Mutual Invitational tournament included our annual golf event. Having Liberty Mutual on our team took our typical tournament to a level that we could have never reached on our own: an increase in golfers by 96 players, a gain in net revenue by 300 percent, and heightened community awareness of our programs and services offered to people with developmental disabilities."
