20,000 Afghans turnout to support presidential candidate Dr. Ashraf Ghani.

KABUL, Afghanistan, March 11, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Dr. Ghani began his provincial campaign in Helmand- a province commonly associated with insecurity. At the February 26 campaign stop, presidential front-runner, Dr Ashraf Ghani was greeted by thousands of ardent supporters from Helmand. The Lashkar Gah Football stadium was packed to double its capacity as more than 20,000 — men and women, young and old — convened in Lashkar Gah, the provincial capital. Dr. Ghani, who previously headed the committee to transition security responsibility to the Afghan National Security Forces, promised to bring peace and stability to the southern province which has borne much of the brunt of the last decade's violence.

The women in the audience asked him to protect their hard-won rights. The turnout continued in the campaign's tradition of drawing previously unprecedented crowds to hear Afghanistan's next president speak.
