MIDLAND, Texas, March 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- STW Resources Holding Corp. (OTCQB: STWS), an integrated provider of oilfield services and water management, announced today that the water remediation system it is developing through its joint venture with Tat-Tech has attained third-party laboratory certification. The company's High Frequency Electro Induction System (HFEIS) has been certified effective by Permian Laboratories in Midland. STW and Tat-Tech are now developing a larger mobile system for commercialization that can process roughly 200,000 gallons (4,700 bbls) of oilfield produced, frac flowback, and/or brackish water per day. The system, which is designed to be mounted on a trailer and started with a generator, is self sustaining, with the ability to remove salt and other contaminants from the water, while generating enough electricity not only to power itself but excess electricity that can be transmitted to other end users. If larger volumes of water need to be processed, additional units can be integrated.
"STW funded the efficacy period in conjunction with Tat-Tech to transition from a bench top test in a laboratory to a full size field testable unit, which resulted in taking produced water with 72,100 Chlorides down below our target of 220 parts per million and TDS of 94,200 to 1,270 parts per million," stated Lee Maddox, COO of STW Resources.
Maddox added, "With successful testing and proof of efficacy at this scale, STW is moving forward to the next phase of commercialization, which we estimate will cost between $3.5-$4 million. STW Resources Holding is actively seeking joint venture partners to complete commercialization and deploy this technology."
Stanley Weiner, Chairman & CEO of STW Resources, said, "We've reached a milestone by attaining independent certification of our produced and flowback water remediation technology for large-scale operations. In the next six months, we expect to have completed a larger, commercially viable prototype of the system and begin securing contracts from oil and gas producers.
Weiner added, "We will be tapping into a tremendous unmet need for fresh water for oil and gas drilling and fracking operations. Texas alone produces approximately eight billion barrels (one barrel = 42 gallons) of produced and frac flowback water per year in its oil and gas drilling, fracking and producing operations. Nationwide, the industry generates approximately 30 billion barrels of produced water per year. Processing saline waters into fresh water, while generating excess electricity will go a long way towards creating energy independence in an environmentally friendly manner. Not only are we processing produced water into usable water for oilfield operations, we are preserving our natural fresh water resources and actually introducing new fresh water into our ecosystem. Produced water comes out of the ground with oil and gas that was deposited millions of years ago."
