NEW YORK, March 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Reportlinker.com announces that a new market research report is available in its catalogue:
Analysis of the Global Unified Threat Management (UTM) and Next Generation Firewall (NGFW) Market
Flexible Products Deliver Superior Protection and Customer Value
•Demand for effective and efficient network security solutions only continues to grow as data security breaches increase in frequency and impact, and as regulatory requirements continue to change.
•The network firewall has emerged as the cornerstone of an IT organization's information security infrastructure but is also undergoing a period of rapid and forced evolution in recent years.
•In particular, the effectiveness of stateful firewalls has been challenged in the modern cyber threat climate.
•With stateful firewalls (also called legacy firewalls when referring to stateful-only firewalls, lacking next generation functionality) no longer being the end-all in perimeter defense, demand for the "next generation" of network firewalls is gaining market momentum.
•The initial attempt at improving firewall functionality, called Unified Threat Management (UTM), sought to improve security by integrating multiple security technologies into a single network appliance.
•Unfortunately, the consolidation of several security tools into a single network device introduced performance degradation that makes the UTM solution less feasible for use in environments requiring consistent and high network throughput along with complex or numerous security policies and rules.
•More recently, vendors have developed Next Generation Firewall (NGFW) products designed to address a major weakness in the inspection process of stateful firewalls.
•As many of the modern cyber threats are designed to piggyback on legitimate application-layer network traffic, their malicious payloads bypass stateful firewall inspection mechanisms. NGFW's overcome this blind spot by identifying and controlling application traffic.
•The commonly accepted definition of NGFW also includes the integration of Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) capabilities. However, network firewalls have historically been considered devices that enforce "entry-and-exit" policies.
•As a result, the integration of IPS for threat inspection raises questions about the future role of the single function network firewall.
•This consideration, along with other factors such as performance impact and cost, have an impact on the way that firewalls are sold, where in the network topology they are deployed, who they are sold to, and customer expectations.
•This new and expanded definition of a network firewall has introduced a level of uncertainty for firewall vendors and customers alike.
This is an important strategic market for security vendors and network infrastructure manufacturers. Customers prefer to purchase security and IT solutions from a single provider whenever possible.
Businesses are continually challenged to do more with less. Firewalls must be intuitive to deploy and manage in order for businesses to reap the most value from their firewall investment.
Firewall requirements will vary widely in terms of performance, cost, and features depending on the size of the organization, placement within the network, and risk management objectives.
Security threats and enterprise technologies only continue to change; firewall vendors must provide a high degree of flexibility in their products to allow for changing security requirements and regulations.

We are reaching the end of the beginning with WebRTC and real systems using this technology have begun to appear. One challenge that faces every WebRTC deployment (in some form or another) is identity management. For example, if you have an existing service – possibly built on a variety of different PaaS/SaaS offerings – and you want to add real-time communications you are faced with a challenge relating to user management, authentication, authorization, and validation. Service providers will want to use their existing identities, but these will have credentials already that are (hopefully) ir...

While great strides have been made relative to the video aspects of remote collaboration, audio technology has basically stagnated. Typically all audio is mixed to a single monaural stream and emanates from a single point, such as a speakerphone or a speaker associated with a video monitor. Spatial teleconferencing introduces the concept of acoustic spatial separation between conference participants in three dimensional space. This has been shown to significantly improve comprehe...
