How Much To Make An App: Free Estimator from Gravity Jack Makes Cost of Mobile Development Easy

Fun new tool gives anyone free professional estimates for any mobile app idea, in just seconds.

LIBERT LAKE, Wash., March 18, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- What's the cost of an app? If you've ever had an idea for a mobile app, or wondered how much it would cost to turn your mobile idea into reality — the days of wondering what it would take are over.

The 'Free App Estimate' tool graced the internet (and app store) this week, as a freebie from Gravity Jack, a Washington-based custom software design and development agency — a team who has been around the block, creating custom apps for brands like Coca-Cola, TaylorMade, Boeing, WWE and more. The tool (as the name implies) gives users instant, clear and simple cost estimates for any mobile project or app idea, based on standard industry pricing for professional software development.

The web-based tool is available online at FreeAppEstimate.com, as well as a free mobile app for iOS (with Android coming soon) and gives small businesses and individuals who may otherwise be unsure of where to start with the mobile app development process, a clear first step — and then some.

Users are asked 10 simple questions regarding their goals for the app or mobile project — without having to give the details of their potentially million-dollar idea away. The Free App Estimator adds or subtracts cost, based on a user's response to each question — showing the user the changes with each answer. Not completely sure on every feature? The App Estimator handles that too. Every question is provided with a "not sure" option — ensuring that everyone who gives the tool a try, finishes with a better idea of what to expect, should the app go to development.

Once the questions are answered, users are given a total cost estimate. This information can be taken to any custom software development agency in the world, or conveniently sent to Gravity Jack's expert team, to discuss further, with just one click.

"We've taken the potentially confusing experience of software development, and really gotten down to the key critical features that affect cost, when creating an app," says Luke Richey, Gravity Jack's CEO. "Then, we took those aspects, and put them in words that everyone understands. Making a powerful, industry-ready app shouldn't be complicated — and now, quite simply, it's not."

The Free App Estimator is available at FreeAppEstimate.com or for free download on iPhone and iPad, in Apple's App Store.

Skeuomorphism usually means retaining existing design cues in something new that doesn’t actually need them. Thanks to Docker, it becomes very easy to leverage containers to build, ship, and run any Linux application on any kind of infrastructure. Docker is particularly helpful for microservice architectures because their successful implementation relies on a fast, efficient deployment mechanism – which is precisely one of the features of Docker. Microservice architectures are therefore becoming more popular, and are increasingly seen as an interesting option even for smaller projects, instead of bein...

BlueBox bridge the chasm between development and infrastructure. Hosting providers are taking standardization and automation too far. DevOps tends to focus on the relationship between Dev and Ops, putting an emphasis on the ops and application infrastructure. But that’s changing with microservices architectures. In her session at DevOps Summit, Lori MacVittie, Evangelist for F5 Networks, will focus on how microservices are changing the underlying architectures needed to scale, secure and deliver applications based on highly distributed (micro) services and why that means an expansion into “the network” for DevOps.
Application metrics, logs, and business KPIs are a goldmine. It’s easy to get started with the ELK stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash and Kibana) – you can see lots of people coming up with impressive dashboards, in less than a day, with no previous experience. Going from proof-of-concept to production tends to be a bit more difficult, unfortunately, and it tends to gobble up our attention, time, and money. In his session at DevOps Summit, Otis Gospodnetić, co-author of Lucene in Action and founder...
