Greek Tourism Rebounds, Sweepstakes Sends Lucky Facebook Fan to Experience it All for Free

Friendly Planet Travel today launched another enticing travel sweepstakes, sending two lucky travelers on a free trip to the Mediterranean paradise of Greece. The winner of Friendly Planet’s Great Greece Giveaway will receive a free trip for two on the nine-day Athens & 4 Day Greek Isles Cruise group tour, a prize valued at up to $6,100. On this vacation, travelers will explore Athens, the birthplace of Western civilization, and tour the picturesque Greek isles that spot the Aegean Sea with whitewashed villas and breathtaking beaches on a four-day cruise. The Great Greece Giveaway Facebook sweepstakes ends on Sunday, April 20, 2014.

“Greece and the Greek islands are among the world’s greatest vacation destinations, yet tourism to this beautiful country had fallen in recent years due to misguided perceptions about the nation’s economic and political situation,” says Peggy Goldman, President of Friendly Planet Travel. “But today savvy travelers are rediscovering the unparalleled beauty and history that exist in this Mediterranean mecca, and that’s why we’ve decided to host the Great Greece Giveaway. We wanted to introduce one lucky Facebook fan and a guest to the true experience of Greece, a country that’s not only the cornerstone of Western civilization and renowned for its glorious ancient past, but home to some of the most luxurious and scenic vistas in the world.”

The trip begins in Athens where travelers can take in the city’s unique integration of Eastern and Western influences. Then it’s off on a four-day cruise of the Greek isles, with fabled Mykonos the first stop. Explore the island’s enchanting alleyways lined with charming shops and adorned with blossoming geraniums. From Mykonos, it’s on to Turkey for a morning dedicated to exploring the ancient city of Ephesus before sailing to the historic island of Patmos, Greece, where St. John wrote the Book of Revelation.

After strolling through the streets of Patmos, which are stippled with whitewashed houses, flowering courtyards, and bustling tavernas, sail to Rhodes, the ‘Island of Roses.’ Meander through the city of Rhodes, the largest inhabited medieval town in Europe, and explore its fascinating web of Byzantine, Turkish, and Latin ruins.

The cruise continues to the iconic islands of Crete and Santorini. “These islands exude luxury and relaxation,” says Goldman. “Travelers will soak up stunning views of the Mediterranean’s turquoise waters, taste luscious wine and culinary treats, and explore the quaint villages, fortresses, shops, and courtyards, inevitably losing themselves in the wonderful richness of the islands.”

After wandering through the open air market of Heraklion, Crete’s largest city, and lounging on the volcanic, black sand beaches of Santorini, the cruise sails back to Athens where travelers spend a final two days enjoying the sights and sounds of this flourishing metropolis.

The grand prize of the Great Greece Giveaway includes round-trip, non-stop airfare from New York (JFK or EWR) including fuel surcharges, taxes, and fees via Lufthansa German Airlines; all ground transportation; port charges and cruise tips; four nights aboard the Louis Cruise Lines MV Olympia; three nights in a deluxe hotel in Athens; buffet breakfast daily in Athens, and all meals aboard the cruise.

The Great Greece Giveaway is open to all legal U.S., Canadian, and Puerto Rican residents over the age of 21, beginning March 18, 2014 and ending April 20, 2014 at 11:59 p.m. EDT. To enter, visit Facebook.com/FriendlyPlanetTravel, like the page, and submit the required information through the Great Greece Giveaway sweepstakes tab. Since this is a brand-new contest, travelers will have to enter their information (whether or not they participated in a past Friendly Planet Travel sweepstakes) to be eligible to win this prize. There is no purchase necessary to enter the sweepstakes. Friendly Planet will announce the winner on its Facebook page and on the Friendly Planet Travel blog on April 21, 2014.

Friendly Planet’s Athens & 4 Day Greek Isles Cruise package is available in 2014 on the departure dates of Oct. 18 for $2,249; Sept. 27 for $2,349; Aug. 23 and May 31 for $2,649; June 28 for $2,699; and July 26 for $2,749, all if booked by April 22.
