Tyfone Appoints Former Rear Admiral Nicholas Kalathas as Consulting Advisor for Government and Healthcare Sectors

Tyfone (www.tyfone.com), a cyber and mobile secure ID and secure transaction solutions provider, today announces the appointment of retired Rear Admiral Nicholas Kalathas as a consulting advisor. As a flag officer, Rear Admiral Kalathas served as the senior logistician for Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), and commanded the CENTCOM-Joint Theater Support Contracting Command where he oversaw $20 billion of contracts for services, construction and supplies in Iraq and Afghanistan. In addition to earning the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit and other awards, he was a member of the Navy Acquisition Professional Community and held a Level III certification in Contracting. At the time of his retirement, he was responsible for Contingency Contracting Policy within the Office of the Secretary of Defense. He retired after 30 years of military service in 2013.

Last year, Tyfone announced that U.S. Department of Defense Deputy Under Secretary for Intelligence and Security Reginald Hyde assumed a role as a Tyfone business advisor upon retiring from public service. The company also announced The Connected Smart Card™ (CSC™), a breakthrough security solution to address imminent cybersecurity concerns, and entered into a strategic investment and technology development agreement with In-Q-Tel to bring mobile security to the U.S. Government.

“The negative impacts of cybercrime are clear and present. The military-grade hardware technology Tyfone has built needs to be in the physical possession of users who are allowed legitimate access. This not only makes hacking in bulk nearly impossible for cyber criminals, but it also allows for secure communications over multiple platforms with just one device. Tyfone has been ahead of the curve in technology innovation and has invested many years of effort that will revolutionize the industry and ultimately bring down enterprise IT costs while delivering unprecedented levels of security. I am very excited to be part of this critically important transformation in cybersecurity,” said Kalathas.

The economic impact of cybercrime increased to more than $1 trillion in 2013, according to the Center for Strategic and International Studies. This cost increase is in spite of organizations spending over $46 billion on cybersecurity last year, according to HP. With this trend, the need for Tyfone’s innovative CSC security solution is global and urgent.

“We are privileged to have added an individual of the caliber, pedigree and reputation of Nick Kalathas to assist Tyfone in our future endeavors,” said Dr. Siva Narendra, co-founder and chief executive officer of Tyfone. “We are looking forward to working with him to expand the impact Tyfone can have in securing cyber assets in the Government and Healthcare sectors.”
