New Byliner Explore Helps You Find the Right Story Every Time

Leading Digital Reading Service Introduces New Recommendation Tools and Social Elements to Increase Literary Sharing; Adds Byliner Weekly to Expand the Options for the Casual Reader

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 03/24/14 -- Byliner, the leading digital reading service and top seller of e-shorts/singles, today introduced Byliner Explore, a new visual interface curated to help readers easily determine what to read next. Additionally, Byliner's new social features empower editors, writers, and readers to share their personal reading recommendations with each other via a variety of common social platforms.

Byliner offers more than 30,000 short stories from more than 1,500 of today's most acclaimed writers including Jon Krakauer, Margaret Atwood, Amy Tan and Susan Orlean for a low weekly or monthly price. Byliner selects stories according to rigorous editorial guidelines and each story takes anywhere from five minutes to two hours to read.

Byliner Explore Takes the Guesswork Out of What to Read Next
Byliner's new interface for the Web and iOS devices provides a beautifully streamlined and efficient way to discover new stories, every time. Byliner Explore emulates the visual appeal of the best magazine experience and hardcover book jacket to highlight its extensive collection of e-short content, helping readers anticipate what they can expect from a story and making their selection easier.

Byliner's editorial team also provides a brief recommendation for each story, similar to the "staff picks" insights at a local independent bookstore and a 'time to read' notation indicating how long it will take to read. Readers can scroll across a series of five interactive sections curated according to multiple categories:

  • Editors' Picks - carefully chosen stories from Byliner's expert editorial team
  • Trending - new stories that have the Byliner community buzzing
  • Byliner Originals - exclusive content created only for Byliner
  • Collections - a collection of stories supporting a specific topic

Weekly or Monthly - Readers Get to Choose
There are two versions of Byliner -- a $0.99 weekly curated experience and an all you can read, monthly version for $5.99. Byliner Weekly brings together 3-5 stories around a specific topic that are meant to be enjoyed in less than two hours. The monthly version of the service, which also includes the Weekly offering, provides unlimited access to the entire Byliner service.

Byliner also includes a Nightstand feature that allows readers to browse and save pieces to their 'virtual nightstand' for reading at a later time. The Nightstand feature even allows these stories to be read offline, be it during a subway commute, airplane ride or anywhere else without connectivity.

Byliner Empowers the Social Sharing of Inspiring Stories
One critical aspect to any online entertainment service -- including streaming popular video and music services -- is the ability for people to use their social networks and communities to share, discover and try out new content. Byliner is the first digital reading service that allows readers to share pieces of content with those in their social networks absolutely free for 24 hours. Be it Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or even email, this feature lets anyone who is subscribed to the service share stories that they think will entertain, educate and inspire their friends.

This increased social connectivity and toolset are the result of the recent Byliner acquisition of Everlapse, its team and technology. Byliner's expanded team will continue to focus helping readers "discover, read, and share" and thus better differentiate Byliner as the quality curator of great written content. The team plans to launch the Byliner service on Android later this month.

"Our collection of 30,000 stories presents a wealth of riches to Byliner readers but the challenge all consumers face is knowing where to start. We set out to assemble the best combination of recommendation engine, editorial guidance and social sharing tools to help solve that challenge," said Deanna Brown, President, Byliner. "Other reading services just offer you a warehouse full of books with no direction on how to find a great story, but we at Byliner carefully curate all of our content to ensure that you can always find the perfect story at the perfect time."
