Real-Time Information Directly From Parking Spots: Introducing ParkerData™ Availability API

Live parking availability data powers mobile apps, websites, in-car navigation systems and electronic street signs

FOSTER CITY, Calif., March 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Streetline, Inc., the leading global provider of smart parking solutions, today released ParkerData Availability API, a real time API that enables application developers, current Streetline customers, and Streetline partners to incorporate real-time parking availability into applications, websites, in-car navigation systems and dynamic electronic signage.

"Opening up our real-time data set is an exciting step forward in accelerating the development ecosystem and the use of parking data as an ingredient in apps, websites, in-car navigation systems," said Zia Yusuf, CEO of Streetline. "By encouraging the integration of both our static off-street data and now our dynamic, real-time data through the ParkerData Availability API, we can optimize the benefits of parking guidance including reduced congestion, reduced emissions, improved motorist experience, and a thriving downtown community."

Using the ParkerData Availability API, developers can build their own parking visualizations on mobile and web apps, in-car navigation, or drive variable message signs that display an availability count, as well as the total capacity for the facility or collection of spaces. The ParkerData Availability API can display availability for all combined spaces in a facility (lot or garage) or can segment availability by row or by space type. The ability to segment is particularly useful when displaying availability of special use spaces such as EV, accessible, or visitor spaces.  Data is currently available for more than 40 locations in the U.S., Canada, Germany, UK, Spain and France.

At the core of the ParkerData Availability API is an inference engine that has analyzed over 225 million sensor-based parking events, and through Streetline's proprietary machine learning algorithms, delivers accurate and timely parking space availability across various space topologies including parallel (on-street), perpendicular (lots and garages), and diagonal spaces. The inference engine also provides an availability index value, such as Low, Medium, and High, which can be used as a space count alternative.

The ParkerData Availability API has already been released to select customers and partners in a private beta and will be available more broadly on a fee basis in the future.

"The ParkerData Availability API is the natural evolution of Parker™, the world's first mobile app that delivers real-time parking availability, and builds on the ParkerData Basic API, which provides programmatic access to over 20,000 off-street parking facilities," said Vito Salvaggio, SVP Product Management of Streetline. "We've captured feedback from our partners and customers and defined a real-time API that we believe will further accelerate the proliferation of real-time parking availability data across a broader variety and apps and devices."

Streetline is the leading source of real-time parking data in the U.S. and Europe – providing real-time data to consumers on open parking spots on the street and in garages through Parker, leading guidance application available on both iPhone and Android. To capture real-time data, Streetline's patented smart parking platform detects the presence of a car through a network of ultra-low power wireless sensors located in individual parking spaces. Cities, universities, and parking providers glean valuable insight into their parking operation through ParkSight™, a cloud-based application that includes historical and real-time data to aid in policy and workforce management. To date, the Streetline Smart Parking Platform has detected more that 225 million parking events across more than 40 deployments in the U.S. and Europe.
