YOUNGSTOWN, OH--(Marketwired - March 29, 2014) - Fourth-year medical students from Avalon University School of Medicine now know where they will be practicing medicine starting this spring. Every year the soon to be graduates anxiously wait for "Match Day," a joyous day in which residency programs inform the soon to be graduates where they will be beginning their new chapter in their lives as a practicing physician.
In order to provide direct patient care, physicians in the United States must complete a three- to seven-year residency program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. National Match Day is the culmination of a process that begins each fall, when senior medical students apply to residency programs through a national computer system designed to optimize the rank-ordered choices of applicants and residency program directors. The results of the Match were released simultaneously to all senior medical students across the United States and Caribbean Schools.
"We take great pride in how well our graduates do in their residency placements, and in their clinical performance in these residencies, said Samir Fatteh, M.D., President of Avalon University School of Medicine.
