USA Debut: TextLimit Mobile Application

NATIONAL DISTRACTED DRIVING AWARENESS MONTH

WASHINGTON, March 31, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month during which the States of Kentucky and West Virginia are the first in the nation to debut a new, high-tech solution to the epidemic of texting and driving crashes by offering millions of motorists free downloads of TextLimit -- a unique smartphone application that restricts touch screen and calling functions while the device is used in a moving vehicle.

TextLimit is based in Louisville, KY. President David Meers explains, "TextLimit works with a smartphone's global positioning software to determine the speed of the user's vehicle." He continues, "When a vehicle reaches a pre-selected speed limit the smartphone's touch-screen is inhibited -- deactivating texting and most calling functions; therefore reducing the likelihood of distracted driving-related crashes."

Bill Bell, Treasurer of the National Governors Highway Safety Association and Executive Director of Kentucky's Transportation Cabinet, says, "Kentucky has tested TextLimit extensively and concluded it is effective and reliable." He adds, "I am convinced TextLimit will help reduce the escalating incidents of distracted driving deaths and collisions in Kentucky and the U.S."

Compatibility & Downloads

TextLimit works with all Android, Apple and Blackberry 3G and 4G LTE devices connected to a data signal on AOI, AT&T, Boost, Metro PCS, T-Mobile, Verizon, Virgin, Sprint and all other wireless service systems in the U.S., Canada and around the globe.

The 'app' is available free-of-charge to Kentucky's 3.6 million and West Virginia's 1.35 million licensed drivers and other residents. Just go to TextLimit.com. Coupon Codes: NOTEXTKY & NOTEXTWV.

Downloads available: Apple App Store, Blackberry World, Google Play Store and TextLimit.com websites.

Annual subscriptions: $24.99 USD, per phone.

West Virginia & Other States

West Virginia qualified for federal grants provided by the National Transportation Funding Bill to subsidize the free "app" download, according to Meers. He says several other states are currently reviewing TextLimit.

Distracted Driving Laws

According to GHSA, 43 states and D.C. currently have in place or recently passed laws banning text messaging for all drivers. Most states have varying handheld cell phone prohibitions.

"Laws alone are not enough to deter this danger," says Meers. "The answer to defeating America's deadly distracted driving plague is TextLimit -- a technologically-advanced restraint that puts control in the hands of parents and employers and takes it out of the hands of uncontrollable teenagers and other negligent drivers."

Meers adds, "Since people ages 16-21 account for more than one-third of all distracted driving accidents, TextLimit compels parents to download the 'app' into their children's' cell phones." He stresses, "While enrolling family subscribers is one of the company's goals, the others are to solicit state transportation department mass download agreements, plus public and private transportation providers and corporate motor fleet contracts."

National Statistics

Smartphone-related driving distractions are responsible for upward of 200,000 vehicle crashes nationwide during the first quarter of 2014, according to GHSA, among the official sponsors of National Distracted Driving Awareness Month.

GHSA reports in 2013 there were 1.6 million distracted driving crashes in the U.S. There were more than 3,300 deaths reported in 2012 -- the most recent national fatality statistics available.

Docker offers a new, lightweight approach to application portability. Applications are shipped using a common container format and managed with a high-level API. Their processes run within isolated namespaces that abstract the operating environment independently of the distribution, versions, network setup, and other details of this environment. This "containerization" has often been nicknamed "the new virtualization." But containers are more than lightweight virtual machines. Beyond their small...
The move in recent years to cloud computing services and architectures has added significant pace to the application development and deployment environment. When enterprise IT can spin up large computing instances in just minutes, developers can also design and deploy in small time frames that were unimaginable a few years ago.
