Leading Smokers to Their Own Habit-Kicking Devices: Mynus Launches Indiegogo Campaign to Deliver a New Way to Quit Cigarettes

Along with providing a safe, effective way to gradually quit smoking, the new Mynus smoking-cessation aid eliminates virtually all humanly detectable second-hand smoke and odor

SAN FRANCISCO, March 31, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Smoking is set to kill 8 million people worldwide per year by 2030, according to the World Health Organization. Answering the call of those who don't want to become a statistic is Mynus, the smoking-cessation aid launched an Indiegogo campaign today to fund the manufacturing of a revolutionary device that will give cigarette smokers an effective, discreet new way to quit. Mynus, a small, sleek-looking device, will allow anyone to once and for all wean themselves off of cigarettes, while eliminating virtually all humanly detectable second and third-hand smoke and odor.

Initially self-funded, Mynus was created by non-smoker Kelly Adamic when a friend and a long-time smoker found himself in a hospital undergoing painful treatment and desired a cigarette to relieve his craving. His situation inspired Adamic to come up with a device that would allow anyone to discreetly smoke anywhere in a way that protected others from second-hand smoke. At the same time, he realized that the device could help wean smokers off the addiction to nicotine by enabling them to gradually reduce the amount they consume.

"Our goal is to help the more than 42 million smokers in the U.S. – and the 1.4 billion others around the world – so we developed Mynus, which employs one of the most effective smoking cessation methods known," said Adamic. "What began as a quest of sorts to help a friend has become so much bigger – a device to assist tobacco users looking for an easily managed way to kick the habit, and one that virtually eliminates second-hand smoke."

Not an e-cigarette, Mynus is a design-led device in which a user inserts a fresh cigarette to smoke. Users simply place the cigarette into the device and insert one of the Ten Disk System metering disks, which control the amount of smoke and nicotine that is inhaled while smoking. The disks allow smokers to adjust their intake anywhere from 100 percent to just 10 percent of the smoke produced by the cigarette. Smokers incrementally reduce the amount of smoke and nicotine they inhale by changing discs over time – increasing the ratio of fresh, outside air being mixed with the smoke. When they are down to inhaling only 10 percent of a cigarette's smoke, the next step is quitting altogether. Virtually all humanly detectable smoke and odor exhaled is captured through Mynus' patent-pending filter.

No other smoking cessation device in the world allows you to smoke your own cigarettes while gradually reducing the amount of nicotine you inhale – while capturing virtually all detectable smoke and odor. And unlike e-cigarettes, which release large, undetectable amounts of vapor that contains one of the most addictive drugs known, Mynus allows users to smoke without affecting anyone around them. Once funded, Mynus will retail for $249.

The Indiegogo campaign starts today, Monday, March 31, 2014 and runs 45 days. The retail price for Mynus will be $249. However, the first 250 Indiegogo pledgers will have an opportunity to purchase at a special discounted rate of $165. Pricing will increase incrementally for units following that along with discounts with special packages and device options like the Platinum Plated Mynus available at $375.

About Mynus

Mynus is the smoking cessation aid designed to change the way the world quits smoking as it reduces the amount of nicotine consumed gradually while capturing virtually all humanly detectable second-hand smoke and odor with its patent-pending filter. The Mynus Ten Disk System metering disks control the amount of smoke and nicotine inhaled by diluting the smoke stream with fresh air. The new device was designed, prototyped and seed funded by serial inventor and designer Kelly Adamic. Mynus is seeking funding through the crowd-funding platform Indiegogo. Mynus is based in the San Francisco Bay Area. For more information, go to www.Mynus.com

The Domain Name Service (DNS) is one of the most important components in networking infrastructure, enabling users and services to access applications by translating URLs (names) into IP addresses (numbers). Because every icon and URL and all embedded content on a website requires a DNS lookup loading complex sites necessitates hundreds of DNS queries. In addition, as more internet-enabled ‘Things' get connected, people will rely on DNS to name and find their fridges, toasters and toilets. Acco...

The cloud has transformed how we think about software quality. Instead of preventing failures, we must focus on automatic recovery from failure. In other words, resilience trumps traditional quality measures. Continuous delivery models further squeeze traditional notions of quality. Remember the venerable project management Iron Triangle? Among time, scope, and cost, you can only fix two or quality will suffer. Only in today's DevOps world, continuous testing, integration, and deployment upend...
The Internet of Things is a misnomer. That implies that everything is on the Internet, and that simply should not be - especially for things that are blurring the line between medical devices that stimulate like a pacemaker and quantified self-sensors like a pedometer or pulse tracker. The mesh of things that we manage must be segmented into zones of trust for sensing data, transmitting data, receiving command and control administrative changes, and peer-to-peer mesh messaging. In his session a...

You use an agile process; your goal is to make your organization more agile. But what about your data infrastructure? The truth is, today's databases are anything but agile - they are effectively static repositories that are cumbersome to work with, difficult to change, and cannot keep pace with application demands. Performance suffers as a result, and it takes far longer than it should to deliver new features and capabilities needed to make your organization competitive. As your application an...
