Grocery Savings App Favado Surpasses Half a Million Downloads, Launches “Cloud Sync” for Cross-Platform Access

Favado, the grocery savings app from Savings.com that helps shoppers discover the best deals, today announced the launch of Favado Cloud Sync, a cross-platform tool that offers users a convenient way to seamlessly manage content between the online and in-app experience. Now users have the freedom to bookmark deals directly from their favorite savings blogs. For example, a shopper might come across a great deal on asparagus while reading a quiche recipe from their desktop; now they can simply check it off and the deal is instantly added to their Favado shopping list.

“We set out to build an app that offers shoppers the largest and most accurate source of sales and deals from local grocery, drug and big box stores across the country,” said Loren Bendele, President of Savings.com. “Beyond the deals, we want to make the entire shopping experience more convenient and the introduction of ‘Cloud Sync’ makes building, managing and sharing shopping lists so simple. Shoppers now have the flexibility to find and save deals whether they’re at home or on the go.”

Favado Cloud Sync for Bloggers

Cloud Sync works by partnering with expert lifestyle and savings blogs. By installing the “My Lists” widget, partner sites can instantly add the most comprehensive listing of local grocery store deals powered by Favado. Users can login or create new accounts directly from the site. For these blogs, offering readers this convenience increases page views and unique visits for greater revenue potential.

“Traffic is up 260% on my site since partnering with Favado and my revenue has doubled,” said Lynette Rice, founder of cleverlysimple.com and one of the hand-selected data contributors powering the Favado app. “Having access to this data has freed up a lot of time for me so that I can now devote it to writing recipes and DIY ideas. My site now provides accurate shopping data for my readers while also giving them valuable content to build their savings.”

More Favado Updates and User Activity

Since launching in October, the Favado app has gained a large following of highly active users. To date, Favado has been downloaded to more than 500,000 iOS and Android devices and users typically spend about six minutes within the app - that’s five times the average session (according to research from AppSensor). Additional activity momentum we’re seeing include:

  • Users are highly engaged, open the app an average of 2.4 times per week
  • On average, users are including at least 4 items on their shopping lists per week
  • Overall, 3 million items have been added to shopping lists

Favado serves more than 40,000 sale and coupon combinations each week for more than 150 chain regions across the country, representing small to big-box retailers, from Piggly Wiggly and Smart & Final to Walgreens & Rite Aid to Kroger, Albertsons, Target and Meijer.

DevOps is about increasing efficiency, but nothing is more inefficient than building the same application twice. However, this is a routine occurrence with enterprise applications that need both a rich desktop web interface and strong mobile support. Thanks to Docker, it becomes very easy to leverage containers to build, ship, and run any Linux application on any kind of infrastructure. Docker is particularly helpful for microservice architectures because their successful implementation relies on a fast, efficient deployment mechanism – which is precisely one of the features of Docker. Microservice architectures are therefore becoming more popular, and are increasingly seen as an interesting option even for smaller projects, instead of bein...

Even as cloud and managed services grow increasingly central to business strategy and performance, challenges remain. The biggest sticking point for companies seeking to capitalize on the cloud is data security. Keeping data safe is an issue in any computing environment, and it has been a focus since the earliest days of the cloud revolution. Understandably so: a lot can go wrong when you allow valuable information to live outside the firewall. Recent revelations about government snooping, along...
