In-App Purchases Go Physical as Retoy Unveils On-Demand Toy Platform at DEMO Enterprise 2014

Retoy on Demand Gives Game Developers the Ability to Turn Their IP Into Digitally Connected Toys

SAN FRANCISCO, CA and NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwired) -- 04/03/14 -- Retoy (http://www.Retoy.com), a company focused on bringing in-app purchases into the real world and the inventor of technology behind the hugely successful Angry Birds Telepods™, today announced Retoy on Demand, a self-service, connected toy platform, at DEMO Enterprise 2014.

Currently in private beta, Retoy on Demand is the first full-service SaaS platform that enables mobile game developers to turn virtual characters and in-app items into physical, collectible toys -- and that lets these toys store data and confer in-game benefits upon players. In addition to letting developers translate their existing 3D models into production-ready toys, Retoy on Demand will help them design high-quality custom packaging, create custom Web storefronts, and program physical-to-digital interactions between the toys and their games.

As kids spend more time with mobile smart devices, the toy industry is increasingly becoming dominated by physical collectibles with a digital tie-in. Activision's Skylanders franchise, a console-first connected toy line, generated more than $1.5 billion in its first 18 months in market(1).

In 2013, Retoy invented and licensed to Hasbro a technology called Telepods, a mobile-first and extremely low-cost method for creating collectible toys that can store and rewrite cloud data to confer digital benefits. This technology was employed in the Angry Birds Star Wars Telepods line, which sold more than one million units in its first month of sales, and Angry Birds Go! Telepods.

With Retoy on Demand, Retoy aims to bring similar functionality and "big toy company" supply chain manufacturing and distributing power to developers of all shapes and sizes. The company is assembling a new supply chain, a hybrid of traditional deco and packaging techniques, along with cutting-edge industrial 3D printing systems, to create affordable product at multiple scales.
