Business Strategy: What About Utilities IT Budget? Results from Western European Survey 2013

This IDC Energy Insights study provides an analysis of the results of the annual IDC Energy Insights Survey, which covered France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the U.K. Analysis is focused on the utilities industry and on 119 interviews carried out between August and September 2013. The scope of this study is to understand IT budget allocation and evolution, key challenges for Western European utilities from an IT perspective, leading business initiatives to support IT decisions, the objectives of utilities' IT organizations, and criteria adopted to select IT vendors and satisfaction with primary IT suppliers among utility enterprises in Western Europe. This study is one of a series of studies including the analysis of enterprise and line-of-business (LOB) solutions adoption and investment plans.

"Western European utilities' IT objectives are very much aligned to meet regulatory compliance and overcome the challenge of integrating disparate applications. In fact, according to Western European utilities survey respondents, the most pressing IT objectives are integrated and secure access to data and applications and integration of IT applications with operational technologies, as well as speed and cost of regulatory compliance adaptation," said Gaia Gallotti, research manager, IDC Energy Insights.
