Drool, Britannia? Is the UK Failing the Cloud?
By Roger Strukhoff
Richard Davies wrote: The UK has a good crop of technology pioneers in cloud computing - for example ElasticHosts, FlexiScale, Flexiant, OnApp - and also some strong government initiatives such as G-Cloud. We will have to see whether this kind of technical leadership converts into swift mass-market adoption or not.

AMICAS Announces Availability of New Radiology Software Designed to Revolutionize Service for Referring Physicians
Vision Reach(SM) With New Patent Pending Technology is the Industry's First 'Zero Client' Imaging Application Focused on Marketi

By: PR Newswire
Nov. 24, 2006 08:28 PM

BOSTON, Nov. 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AMICAS, Inc. , a leader in radiology and medical image and information management solutions, has begun selling Vision Reach(SM), a one of a kind product designed specifically to help grow imaging businesses. Vision Reach will be on display at the 2006 Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) annual meeting from November 26th through December 1st, 2006, in Chicago, Illinois. Vision Reach has already been successfully deployed at Tristan Associates in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

Tristan Associates is a multi-facility radiology practice with nineteen radiologists performing over 170,000 annual imaging exams. Tristan utilizes AMICAS Vision Series for end to end radiology practice automation including PACS, RIS, Billing and document management in a filmless and paperless radiology operation. With AMICAS' Web-based Vision Series PACS, Tristan was aggressively distributing Web-based radiology images to its referring physicians. With the addition of Vision Reach, Tristan has taken radiology service to another level with proactive e-mail messaging of images, reports and radiology information. With Vision Reach's patent pending messaging and communications technology, Tristan Associates has a unique service advantage in delivering comprehensive imaging information to its referring physicians.

"AMICAS' Vision Reach has truly opened our eyes to new possibilities in growing our practice. This application gives us a unique opportunity to reach out to referrers and deliver them unprecedented service. We feel that Vision Reach will give us a competitive edge in our market." said Brian P. Bloom, MD, radiologist and partner at Tristan Associates.

New and repeat business from referring physicians is the key to maintaining and growing a successful imaging enterprise. "Despite this, we believe that no application has been brought to market that adequately meets the needs of the referring physician. While PACS adoption has been tremendous, technological barriers such as complex system downloads, Web plug-ins and challenging security issues have hampered the widespread adoption of PACS by referring physicians," said Peter McClennen, president of AMICAS, Inc. "Our research indicates that, generally, a PACS is used by fewer than ten percent of a facility's referring physicians."

Designed to cater specifically to the unmet needs of the referring physician, Vision Reach provides proactive electronic delivery notifying the referring physician when exam results are ready. Harnessing the latest Web- based technologies, Vision Reach integrates the radiology report with key images and creates a single "multi-media" report for referring physicians. Vision Reach then uses common e-mail and secure messaging to proactively deliver images, reports and information to any e-mail enabled device. With over ten years of experience in the development of Web-based PACS, the AMICAS research and development team created Vision Reach with a ZERO INSTALL CLIENT Web-based application. "By eliminating installation and any client level application requirement, we are able to reach a wide range of referring physicians with this exciting new product," said Kang Wang, PhD, chief technology officer and vice president of R&D at AMICAS, Inc.

Full radiology exam information, reports and images are available on multiple computing platforms, operating systems and wireless device types. "With Vision Reach, the information is pushed right to users, therefore the user does not have to log-on and search multiple systems for the needed information; comprehensive radiology information is delivered directly to them proactively. Vision Reach delivers a very simple solution to a very complex problem," added Dr. Wang.

Vision Reach's comprehensive computing platform support includes: * Multi-Platform - Apple, Linux and Microsoft operating system support * Multi Microsoft OS Version - Windows 95, 98, 2000, NT, XP and Vista support * Multi-Browser - Internet Explorer, Firefox, Netscape and AOL support * Wireless support for: Treo, Blackberry, Windows CE & more

Vision Reach is an exciting new product that shares the existing Vision Series PACS Version 5.0 database and is fully integrated to Vision Series PACS. Vision Reach is available as a stand alone referring physician product or in combination with the AMICAS Vision Series of products including RIS, PACS and Financials.
