Darren Mercer Go Green

LONDON, April 11, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --

The subject of global warming and environmental protection is on everybody's lips these days. It's certainly a 'hot topic' and one which looks likely to stay that way for some time. In response, many companies have introduced eco-friendly policies and schemes into their organisations to try and do their bit to save our damaged planet.

The latest firm to announce such a plan is Liverpool and Stockport based interior design company, Darren Mercer Interiors.

Founded in 2006 by its current director, Darren Mercer, and who have recently just announced plans for a new headquarters in Southampton, Darren Mercer Interiors is introducing an innovative new scheme to add to an already decent amount of 'green policies' which the company follows.

The new scheme, named simply 'Green Interiors', is an ambitious project whereby the design studio uses only 100% recycled materials during the build process, as well as incorporating other energy saving features into their designs.

Not only that, the company has also agreed to offset any additional costs for clients that are involved with taking the extra step of 'going green'.

Taking the eco-friendly option is very rarely the cheapest, so in a commendable attempt to encourage more clients to go down that route, Darren Mercer Interiors will cover the extra costs of installing items such as ceiling, wall, loft and floor insulation, energy efficient air conditioning units, LED lighting, and solar panels.

Over the next 5 years it is estimated this project will cost the company somewhere in the region of £1million, but Michael White, the firm's Head Interior Designer, isn't worried in the slightest: "We're fully aware that offering such a deal will cost the company a lot of money but it's a price we're willing to pay to ensure our green credentials."

The idea for Green Interiors actually came from a client, rather than someone within the company, as managing director Mercer explained: "A private client of ours in the Swiss Alps approached us enquiring whether or not a 100% recycled-material interior design make over of his cliffside chalet was something we could provide.

My initial thought was "no chance", but after various discussions with my staff it became clear that this was something all of our team were passionate about and were determined to make happen.

"The success of the Swiss project showed all of us that not only was there a market for this kind of project, but also that we were more than capable of excelling at it. Now, we have completed a further 2 of these transformations and we have at least 10 confirmed throughout 2014."

Some of these upcoming eco-friendly ventures are going to take place in Southampton, where the company will soon open a new Southern division HQ which will serve Wales, the south of England, and Europe.

This expanding and highly driven company aims, by 2018, to complete 50% of their builds using recycled material only. An ambitious target indeed, and one that if they achieve, will bring them plenty of deserved plaudits and recognition.
