Easter Sunrise service at the Lincoln Memorial remembers Marian Anderson

On Easter Sunday morning, the over 6000 people gathered at the Lincoln Memorial for one of the nation's largest sunrise services, will pause to remember Marian Anderson's Easter concert performed in the same location, 75 years prior.

VIENNA, Va., April 15, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The sunrise service, hosted by Capital Church of Vienna, VA and Pastor Amos Dodge is now a Washington tradition.  Held on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial for the past 36 years, the annual interdenominational service celebrates the most sacred of events in the Christian faith - the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.

Each year, Pastor Dodge delivers a hope-filled message of faith and life in Jesus Christ. Pastor Dodge says, "Easter's message has always been about hope and freedom and that is why we are honored to pause and remember Marian Anderson's performance."

During his Easter message, Pastor Dodge is expected to pay tribute to the significance of Anderson's concert 75 years ago and its relevance to our faith today.

The sunrise service will include live orchestra and choir.  Those attending are encouraged to dress comfortably.  A coat or a blanket is suggested for the often brisk morning.  Directed parking is provided.
