BBVA Compass expands Bama® Banking, further tapping into Tide fans' enthusiasm

- More ways for University of Alabama fans to express team pride

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., April 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- BBVA Compass announced today it is expanding its University of Alabama-branded Bama® Banking checking and savings accounts, further tapping into fans' desires to express their Crimson Tide pride through everyday activities.

Featuring Bama Checking, Bama Savings and team-branded online and mobile banking services, BBVA Compass’ Bama Banking gives enthusiastic fans another way to show their unwavering support for the University of Alabama.

Bama Banking initially offered a Crimson Tide Check Card tied to any BBVA Compass consumer checking account, allowing fans to show their pride every time they swiped. Now, the product also includes Bama Checking, Bama Savings and team-branded internet and mobile banking services. Combined with access to the nationwide surcharge-free Allpoint® ATM network, Bama Banking allows customers to conduct almost any banking transaction without visiting a branch.

"Online and mobile banking adoption continues to rise as people gravitate to services that allow them to bank anywhere, anytime, using a device of their choosing," said Joe Cartee, consumer segments executive director for BBVA Compass. "What really makes this package special is that it gives some of college sports' most enthusiastic fans another way to express their unwavering support for the University of Alabama."

Bama Banking can be accessed online or with a smartphone using the bank's mobile app, which allows eligible users to upload a photo of a check to make a deposit. It is the latest product built on BBVA Compass' core technology system, which provides the integration required to support a wholly digital banking product.

Similar to BBVA Compass' NBA Banking, which has generated customers from the fan bases of all 30 NBA teams and from each state in the continental U.S. since its 2013 launch, Bama Checking offers online games and rewards for setting up direct deposits, making Check Card purchases and using Online and Mobile Bill Pay. The account has no monthly Service Charge and allows for one in-branch deposit and a total of three checks and in-branch withdrawals per month at no additional charge.

The bank will introduce the new Bama Banking accounts at the University of Alabama's 2014 A-Day Spring Football Game on Saturday, April 19, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bryant-Denny Stadium. BBVA Compass team members will be joined by former Tide football players Antonio Langham, Andrew Zow and Chris Rogers, who will sign autographs at the bank's tent.

Bama Banking is the latest alliance between BBVA Compass, its parent company, BBVA, and sports that have global appeal and highlight teamwork and fair play. BBVA Compass is an official bank of the NBA; opened BBVA Compass Stadium, home of Major League Soccer's Houston Dynamo, in 2012; and recently inked a five-year deal to sponsor the jerseys worn by the Houston Dash, the ninth team to join the new National Women's Soccer League. In Spain, BBVA sponsors one of the most popular soccer leagues in the world, Liga BBVA.

All accounts and check cards subject to approval, which may include credit approval. $25 minimum opening deposit required. Miscellaneous fees and service charges apply. A $4 Excess Branch Deposits Fee charged for each deposit processed in-branch after 1 per statement cycle.  A $1 Excess Withdrawal Fee charged for each check or in-branch withdrawal processed over the combined limit of 3 per statement cycle. The Excess Withdrawal Fee is not triggered by checks issued through the bill pay service in Online or Mobile Banking.  Please refer to the Terms & Conditions for each product for complete details.
