Grand Solmar is providing travelers with information on how to navigate the daunting world of airline cancellations.

CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico, April 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Grand Solmar welcomes countless guests to its luxurious property located at the beautiful Land's End in Cabo San Lucas every year. Oftentimes, members and guests book their getaways months and sometimes years in advance to when they will be traveling. While it is unfortunate, oftentimes, situations arise when travelers will not be able to visit this incredible resort at the time that they once thought they would be able to. In order to assist travelers in trying to make sense of the complicated world of airline cancellations, Grand Solmar is providing these tips in order to get a refund, or at least to retain some value from their purchased tickets.

1. When you cancel matters
The sooner a traveler contacts their airline to cancel or change their ticket, the better the chances are that that traveler will receive a refund. The longer they wait, the less likely it is that the traveler will receive a refund of a sizeable amount. Especially for travel times that are high in volume, such as Spring Break and holidays, airlines will be more willing to give a refund for a cancellation, so that they can sell the traveler's ticket for a higher price, reveals Grand Solmar.

2. Some circumstances warrant refunds more than others
When it comes to unforeseen or extenuating circumstances, airlines are much more likely to give refunds for a cancellation, even if their policies are more strict than others shares Grand Solmar. A death in the family, a natural disaster, political unrest in the country travelers are going to, a subpoena or court date, hospitalization and more can all be classified as extenuating circumstances and may be recognized by some airlines, though not all will issue refunds.

3. Changing dates vs. Cancellation
Oftentimes, a better alternative to cancelling a flight altogether is to change the date of the flight. While this can sometimes incur fees, the airline might be willing to waive fees for certain circumstances, if the flight is overbooked, etc. Sometimes, changing dates can be free if the cancellation call is made more than two weeks before the date of departure.

Grand Solmar understands that approaching an airline cancellation might be cause for worry, but with these tips, travelers will be better prepared and more informed on how they can receive the maximum amount of money, even when they cannot fly.
