Legal Experts discuss implications of case immediately following court adjournment

WASHINGTON, April 18, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Immediately following U.S. Supreme Court oral arguments, American Task Force Argentina Executive Director Robert Raben and Washington Legal Foundation Chief Counsel Richard Samp will hold a media teleconference from the Supreme Court to provide a post-event recap on Monday, April 21, 1 p.m. EDT.

Samp will share insights and analysis on the arguments provided by the petitioner and respondent and discuss important implications of this case.

Argentina has defied over 100 U.S. court judgments and aggrieved respondents are seeking discovery of their assets to satisfy these judgments.  The Supreme Court will determine if Argentina's assets are "discoverable" in the United States.  This case is being watched at both the federal and state levels and has important legal bearing on the interpretation of the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act, the enforceability of contracts and to awards granted to victims of terrorism.

Robert Raben is the Executive Director of American Task Force Argentina and founder of The Raben Group, LLC. In 1999, he was appointed Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General and, subsequently, Assistant Attorney General, Office of Legislative Affairs. A graduate of Wharton and NYU law, Mr. Raben became as associate with Arnold & Porter in 1990, specializing in international trade, federal lobbying and white collar criminal defense.

Richard A. Samp is Chief Counsel of the Washington Legal Foundation (WLF), a nonprofit public interest law firm located in Washington, D.C. WLF litigates in support of individual rights and the free-enterprise system and against excessive government regulation. Samp has been with WLF since 1989. He practices regularly before the U.S. Supreme Court and other federal courts, with a specialty in health care law.
