MINNEAPOLIS, April 21, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Many superheroes wear masks. However, some superheroes wear surgical masks. In the eyes of a worried pet owner with a sick or injured animal, nothing means more than a veterinarian who goes above and beyond the call of duty to help save the life of a four-legged family member. With this in mind, Medical Arts Press, a leading provider of exam room supplies, printed products and peripherals for medical professionals, is excited to recognize amazing veterinarians nationwide for their commitment to animals and their families with the My Vet is a Superhero contest.
From March 17 through July 31, pet owners can submit their stories of veterinary acts of heroism, nominating a veterinarian who made a difference in their pets' lives. One winner will be chosen each month for the duration of the contest. Each winning veterinarian will be awarded a $500 cash prize and a selection of office products for their practice from Medical Arts Press's catalogue of specialty medical items. In addition, veterinarians and their patients' stories will appear on the Medical Arts Press blog, standing in their Superhero Hall of Fame.
A recent study by the American Veterinary Medical Association revealed that, as of 2011, there were 70 million pet dogs and 74 pet cats in households throughout the U.S. A staggering six out of ten of these pet owners viewed their pets as members of their families.
"Veterinarians have taken on a role just as important as that of the family doctor," says Theresa Duerr, Digital Marketing Director of Medical Arts Press. "These unsung heroes play a key role in helping to keep the growing number of pets a happy, healthy, and vital part of their households. Medical Arts Press wants to honor the veterinarians who have helped make a profound difference in the lives of animals and their caregivers."
